The most common part for this is what they use in bath rooms, translation tells me its called earth leakage circuit breaker in english. (Is that the same as a gfi? couldn't find out what that means) Used one of them when I build a belt grinder some years ago which can be run with water for cooling. ...

Hi gozaimaas, that's exactly why I want to try the long curing hardener, to give everything more time to heat (more) evenly. As we have a very adjustable mold system I don't want any heat differences at the moment, hope it will work. If not I really have to get into heat blanket building - wanted to...

Hi, yes we heat it up to 60°C. Will ask my friend if he bought some special wrapping film, but don't think so. On the other hand: If you use it in the microwave and leave it a bit longer than needed the condensed water directly on the wrapping paper also gets quite hot. Easy temperature test would b...

Hi, the vertical pre-bending definitely lessens the horizontal bending a bit. Had it when i pre-bent the edges for the rise of the tail, was quite a small radius (vertically). Had to re-bend horizontally afterwards. But with the wide radius that is usually used for pre-bending, it shouldn't have muc...

taking the skis out hot - simple question

Hi,

after reading that some of you take the skis off the press while they're still hot and then let them cool down without pressure, I totally agree with that ;)

But: Why don't you just open the press and let them cool down in the press without any pressure?

Cheers

Hi, am trying something on the heat topic at the moment (well, in the next 2 weeks, when the vacuum table is finished and the next ski will be pressed). So far we have been using epoxy with a working time of 45 minutes (but stays liquid much longer in room temp), then put the whole press in the saun...

Hi,

we just have a layer of wrapping film between the base and the mold. Never had any problems with it. Just make sure you "stretch" it over the mold, otherwise some small wrinkles might get into voids like in between the base and the edge.

Cardboard as Topsheet?

Hi, thinking about a cheap alternative for topsheet. Had the idea to use colored cardboard like this: http://www.modulor.de/Papier-Pappe-Karton/Pappe-und-Karton/Fotokarton-und-Hintergrundkarton/Fotokarton-farbig.html Should soak the resin quite well and after the resin is cured it should be durable ...

What I forgot: Every ski boot has a middle marking, usually somewhere in the middle of the sole ;)

Are the Skis self-built or bought? Every factory ski has a middle marking, either on top of the ski or on the sidewall (often a "I"). The center of the boot should be at the center of the ski, so at this marking.
If the skis are self-built, you'll surely know where the middle is ;)

Forget the first one. They are much too weak for working with them. As soon as some Pressure is applied either the motor can't take it or the belt starts slipping because of the cheap plastic rolls.

Hi, didnt take pictures from the rest of the building process, but everything worked as planned - and I'm quite a perfectionist ;) Some pics taken just now inside, will take some nice ones tomorrow at the first ski tour of the year. Ski is 174cm long, is about 116-78-106, so a classic touring ski. T...

Hi, also built a belt grinder some years ago. Its much more work than one thinks at the beginning. Spent more than 100 hours and 600€ for it. But it works ;) You need to decide what you want to spend your time on: Building skis and skiing or building a machine. If the time for your hobbies is scarce...
