Re: Designing Multi -Radius Sidecut AutoCAD/Fusion 360
I have lousy Autocad skills, but what I always do is offset one segment with the radius for the next segment, and then draw the the next segment with the endpoint of the offset curve. So in your example I'd first draw the 7.9 m segment, offset it by 7.1m, and then draw two 7.1m radius circles with t...

Re: Laser base structure machine
Looks cool, but..... how can you laser profile the surface of a base while maintaining the low surface energy properties of (UHMW) PE? I rather expect it to be a great pre-treatment of a base for bonding, not to make a fast base

Re: cariboo skis
You should be leak tight, so if your pump can do 30", you should get 30". If you have a leak you have air flowing, and that may go through your laminate, messing it up. Sometimes you keep having a small leak, but any leakage is tricky. Are you using tacky tape? I see a lot of packing tape....

Re: 22 oz vs 19 oz vs added core thickness
22oz vs 19oz will give you 5-10% stiffness increase depending on the core.

Re: Vacuum infusion snowboard layup
Edge bonding is fine, several boards with 20+ days on them. Without VDS actually, only started using that recently. I once had an edge come loose hitting a rock. I opened up the split with a knife, injected resin with a syringe and clamped it. Still using that board, it rides great and re-energized ...

Re: Vacuum infusion snowboard layup
Yes it is a sublimated PA12 topsheet. Don't understand what it is. I built two boards with such topsheets before and they were perfect.

Re: Monoski
That is very little sidecut by today's standards.
On the alpinesnowboarder.com forum there is a user 'monodude' who is carving monoskis really nicely. Maybe good to contact him for input on a more modern design.

Re: cariboo skis
Definitely use a resin trap. If you really want to do without it, make sure to use a long hose to at least get some buffer.
It also serves as a vacuum vessel. I normally shutdown my pump(but you need to be absolutely airtight for that.

And the end result:
Perfect result. The only flaw is discoloration of the topsheet. Still not sure what caused that, never had this issue before.

Next step is to open the resin lines and let the resin flow! Resin entering at the tail 17_resin_flow - kopie (Gemiddeld).jpg And at the tip: 18_resin_flow2 - kopie (Gemiddeld).jpg The drawback of using the membrane and a non-transparent topsheet is that you cannot really see and follow the progress...

Re: Vacuum infusion snowboard layup
Next a foil is place to separate the resin area from the vacuum. I use a semi-permeable membrame that is permeable to air but not to resin (like gore-tex). This would allow any air bubbles in the resin supply, or leakage from the mould edge, to go directly to vacuum without having to go through the ...

Top triax layer 07_triax_top - kopie (Gemiddeld).jpg I drilled some small holes in the topsheet between the inserts and in the center (hardly visible). This is where vacuum is applied and the resin comes out at the end of the infusion 08_topsheet - kopie (Gemiddeld).jpg I supply resin from the tip a...

Vacuum infusion snowboard layup
I build boards using vacuum infusion and I thought I'd share the process here for those interested. If you have no experience with vacuum infusion I don't recommend starting with this because impermeable layers (core, topsheet) make it a tricky infusion. Get some experience with infusion first. It d...

Re: School me on bases: How much worse is extruded actually
A sintered base is porous and will absorp wax, whereas an exstruded base is not porous and will actually not absorp wax at all, only a bit will stick to the surface. if you don't wax, a extruded base could actually be faster. For me, on a snowboard a fast base is invaluable( especially if you encoun...
