Hi Chris asked... what type of press are you going to use? cnc'd molds? At work we have an old twin screw press for veneering small panels. I'm planning to use that with CNC'd M+F molds and a few clamps on the ends of the molds. It's all a bit rough but should give me plenty of pressure and good dis...

Welcome aboard the Snow Boat

Hi, Well.... I got to thinking the other day after reading the Bataleon web site that a snowboard shaped a little like a boat would be fun to make and if I’m lucky to ride as well. So here goes I’m off to build a snow boat and though that I’d share how horribly wrong it all goes so I’m not crying al...

Hi. MDF is toxic, heavy and expensive. I only used it first time and for all the others (20 ish) molds I used Radiata Pine 90x45mm. (2x4 inch in metric) No worries at all. :D

Hi. 3mm, 1mm, 10mm it all depends. There are heaps of variables here - timber properties, stock width, machine design, cutter grind angle and sharpness, horsepower, etc. If you run your finger along the entire length of the cutter with average pressure and there is no blood you need a blade change. ...

Hi. All you need to do is use a measurement sensor at the out put of the pinch rollers and then feed that back to controllers for the steppers.
Should be easy! Can I order one? :D

Hi. I've got some thoughts from my woody background. With timber we are taught that the best surface to bond to is a cleanly cut unabraded surface. The logic goes something like this. A surface prepared with a sharp edge cutting tool, like a chisel or planner, has excellent surface integrity - undam...

Hi Tim. We have a bunch of veneer here is you need some for samples. Random orbit should remove the backing easily. I'd start off with 150/180 grit and go up the numbers from there. Are you top coating with 2 pack polyurethane? Chris.

Hi. We use backed veneer in the Furnishing trades all the time. Applied with Urea Formaldehyde or PVA usually. No adhesion problems. If you are worried why not apply backing side up/out and sand of the backing after layup? Chris.

Hi. I use this super high tech setup with a 60 grit belt to get the left over resin after jigsawing. The white furry bit is an adjustable angle guide. I can get from -5 to +20 degrees by changing the shims under the guide. For timber edges I go to about 5 degrees with the 60 grit then change over to...

Has anyone considered the posibility of the timber core "shearing"? When I was a kid and had to split fire wood.... the wood split much eaiser between the growth rings. So... if you have a quarter or rift sawn core (growth ring vertical) the layers of early and late wood (summer/winter gro...

Hi Falls. I use 2 litre ice cream containers (I get them new) after the epoxy has set I remove the set material with the compresses air blower. Comes off easy as. I mix 2 batches for each board of 420 grams. The 2 l container gives me thin layer in the bottom which helps prevent over heating as well!
