Re: Ski engineering
Everything can be calculated quite easily using laminate theory and quasi static bendingof beams. Choosing is the harder part and in the end comes down to experience and testing. You could do some bending tests on different commercial skis in different areas, and then from there create your own hypo...

Re: Obygden Teknologi - s02
Yeah same here. I am too curious and it is more interesting to me to make some stupid stuff that might or might not work out. Otherwise i would just buy an off the shelf pair...

Re: Obygden Teknologi - s02
Depends on the manufacturer I guess. There is a factory video by Mervin where they showed the tool they use to add their Magnetraction. It was essentially a small levered press that forced the edges into the wavy shape. Pretty simple tool - can be seen in the video below at 3:42. https://www.youtub...

Re: can i fix messed up core?
Had a similar oupsie last year on my snowboard where the collet of the router wasn't tightened enough. was smaller but along the sidewalls. filled it with epoxy microballoons and didn't run into any issues.

Re: can i fix messed up core?
Just fill it with epoxy/microballoon mix or bond an offcut of the core back on. No biggie

Re: Foam Core Density
I just finished a pair of super light freetouring skis with balsa in the center and rohacell in tip and tail. The loading should be less there, but the shear loading is big as the core is so thin. I honestly don't know if they will hold up but i will let you know. planned on writing something about ...

Re: Jonrezz’s Build Log
magne traction is a pain to bend the edges. worth it tho. i made a snowboard with it last season and working on a pair of skis with magne traction right now. I can share some pictures of my beveling technique when i finish my pair. I basically sand the sidewalls on the belt sander until i touch the ...

Re: EndGrain Balsa
This comes down to internal crack propagation. Really for a ski application where you have thin cores that will absorb a lot of resin this is a no-issue. the worst about it is the machinability which depending on your machinery can vary from impossible to a pain in the ass. Furthermore it is hard to...

Re: core hardwood inserts
I do agree with mammuth that it is probably fine, but i personally would just route out a small pocket and bond in some poplar locally just to be on the safe side. In the end this takes like half an hour and drilling the insert holes will end up being easier as the drilling these soft woods can be a...

quick tip: die cut ski base
Hey everyone I am working on a pair of super light freeride skis and I thought that was a good moment to show everyone how I die cut the base or rather the logo in the base. Maybe this inspires some of you guys to try something similar. The tool was made in maybe two hours and it held up way longer ...

i use fusion 360 and love it, but if all you need is to draw some templates pretty much anything will do.

Re: Visible core
Hey! I was wondering if it was possible keep te core visible after layup. I was planning on using flax and carbon underneath the core and flax on top, but flax is not see trough. Correct me if im wrong but glassfiber is? Or would i be better of maken a wood veneer top? Thanx! even if you have a ful...
