Welcome to the forum! There are a few of us from the PNW. I ski at Snoqualmie, have most of my life. We try to get down to Crystal once or twice a year, but I never made it this year (I know you're still open... but I'm not willing to do the drive just for green valley). Here's my only tip for you -...

Yeah, production cost. Some companies do one piece, but that drives up time/cost of production, for really no functional benefit, just aesthetics.

Man, I'm away from the site for like 24 hours and I miss something big!

I see the user changed all of his posts/threads. Should I just go through and clean all of that out? I'm not even sure who the user was, it's a shame they got chased away from the forum - but the posts no longer add any value.

I hope none of you take your winter for granted. I haven't built anything this year, because there's no point. I skied one day, in the rain, about a month ago. My entire mountain is dirt at this point, not even thin patches of snow left. :( (pacific northwest)

Yeah, take all of my input with a grain of salt - I did virtually no research when I built everything, it just all works so I'm good with it. My motors get very hot, but I've been told that's normal for these steppers. My x-axis is driven by rack and pinion, on either side of the frame, but there is...

I've also never been a fan of exposed core on the sides - when I've done bamboo sidewalls, they were separate bamboo strips glued to a bamboo core. I want to minimize exposed endgrain for water absorption concerns.

Rich, the G540 has four outputs :) What are you doing for a 4th axis? Any pictures of your build so far? A closed-loop system would be super sweet. I've never had problems with skipped steps on my big router, but I have had it happen on my small mill when taking too-deep of cuts in steel. That's som...

I'm using a GeckoDrive G540. I don't know what its limitations are, but it works for my machine. There was literally nothing for me to learn or figure out, I just plugged my motors in (they had DB9 connectors already), plugged it into the computer, and I was up and running. It does use a parallel po...

Main reason I use tip spacers (uhmwpe) is I worry the bamboo I use for the cores would have a hard time conforming to the tip shape. The ptex is probably heavier than the bamboo so I'm adding swing weight. While I've done wood (bamboo) sidewalls, I've never done a full tip-to-tail core without tip s...

The tip is ahead of your contact patch, it doesn't effect the overall bending stiffness of the ski, unless you are doing big nosepresses. Don't worry about it. Your only concern up there should be with good bonding of the plastic.
