Ski blades???? NO! but kid's skis? Yes. Actually not yet. I should be laying up some sticks for my son next month. I'm trying to sort out my topsheet wants first. His skis will be about 140cm which is about ski blade length isnt it? I would think that it would be far easier & probably cheaper to...

My mold is mdf. After pressing with heat for about an hour we pulled the skis out and the tips immediately began to delam. We threw the skis back on the mold & into the press, letting them bake for another hour. Then when we pulled them out they were adequately cured. I later noticed this deform...

A big congradulation to the Ks for being in SKI magazine!!!!

Just recieved the current issue of SKI magazine and there is a cover story on building your own skis. Skibuilders.com is mentioned & Big Kam is quoted a number of time. How cool is that? Congrats guys!!

Re: Flexible heaters

I was thinking that if the core is shaped to sit within the edges and then the sidewalls were slightly 'raised' to avoid a void in the base then this may solve the location issues too. Has anyone tried this or got any other top tips in this area?. That was our solution & things ended up lined u...

Ski assembly video. Thanks Kingswood!

I searched the forums & couldn't find any mention of this video, so it must be fairly new. I've seen the Line/Karhu video, but it was so industrial that it was merely interesting to watch. This video is inspirational because it seems within reach. I picked up several good tips for lay-up just by...

I have also heard this from someone in the industry.

Heated Presses

It sounds like several users have their own versions of heated presses. I figured it would be nice to have images & descriptions of them in one thread. This way someone who is planning thier build they can see everyone else's. I'm about to re-design for a internal heat blanket system & I'd l...

Okay, the correlation I see here is that MLReed and I are the ones losing camber. We both use a exterior heat source for the press rather than a heat blanket. We both are impatient & press the ski just long enough & then pull it out hot. I'm thinking that I'll be springing for a heat blanket...

Direct from Durasurt. No questions asked. It's been more than a year since I did it, so things may have changed since then.

Realisticly though, I am a "custom ski manufacturer" and there's no reason that I shouldn't be sold materials at wholesale.

That is a beautiful ski. Well done! What variety of wood is that veneer? I think I'd like to use it some time. Did you add any color to it besides the color of the epoxy hardener?

Looking good.

That is a great question, since many of us are struggling with camber loss right now. My tips & tails have pretty well mantained their hight. If they've flattened at all, it would be only 5% at most. You should note that I did rivet them to prevent delamination, which will definitely help mantia...

You can use a uv resistant epoxy to be shure.
how is your camber holding up after that many ski days?

Let's hear about your skis!

Mine did the same thing. I think I'm using a little different epoxy than you are, (still QCM) After skiing them a few times they're reverse camber. I'm not sure how I'm going to solve this problem. Sound's like the Kam's are using a long cooldown to eleviate this problem. That will be my plan on my ...

yes, definitely router for the edge tabs.

I did & the bases came out pretty flat.

An ski industry insider said that their cores have been routered for the edges. I figure if they do it, i will too.

Is that a wood vaneer that you are going to use as a topsheet? If it is, it should be pretty cool looking.. The bottle opener will be a nice touch. Gonna use inserts to mount it?
