Those are sweet! Where are you getting structural bamboo around the Seattle area for the cores? I've been looking for a while and can't find anything but flooring or high end plywood.

Wow, great knowledge on this site. You all gave us some really good ideas to move forward with. This thread got a bit off topic so Ill ask again what everyone thinks of the 'naked' look where you can see through to the core. Look past the fiberglass issues, we'll fix that with time but is the idea s...

Thanks for the nice comments everyone! This is really easy to do and I encourage you, No I challenge you to reach out to your local elementary school art teacher and show them what we can do. Any good art teacher will be all over this; just give them a few full size pieces of paper and if you can, p...

Its 20oz Triax although when I look close at the glass I have in the shop; on one side you can clearly see the weave and on the other it looks like double bias. But honestly, it is Triax... here's the description from Fiberglass Supply... SKU: C74-4325 20oz Warp Triaxial E-Glass 50" wide 0 degr...

Thanks, yea they got it figured out for me. The kids thought these were super cool. The graphics are just paper that they colored on with a 4oz e-glass over them and a clear topsheet.

The decks do have a topsheet. We've been using Crown Plastic's Duravision material. Its OK, cuts easy and is kinda hard to work out any air bubbles under it but if you epoxy the bottom side of the material 1st and your patient, seems to work pretty good. I've never tried IsoSports materials, I hear ...

A couple of kids decks with the graphics done by the kids...

We made these decks up earlier this summer for the kids at Wellington Elementary as part of an art project. The kids did the graphics and we made them into snowboards. Thought I'd share the kids artwork.

My vacuum pump is pulling 29-29.5 in/Hg so that's about as high as I can get it. The tap resin has pretty good viscosity but I may be using the wrong hardener. I like the resin because I can just swing by my local store and pick it up so I don't have to order it. Ill try the faster hardener, that ma...

Were using marine grade resin from Tap Plastic with a slow hardener. We press them on a vacuum press and have them under a bunch of heat lamps for now. Were in the process of ordering up a heat blanket so that should help a bit.

I thought the glass looked a little dry too. Any ideas?

Trying to show off the core this season...

Hope everyone had a good summer and have started building again. We have started to fire off a couple new decks and were trying to preserve the look of the core rather than covering it up with a graphic. Here's a few pics... http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b559/Ryme123/DSC_0051_zps5a0e22b7.jpg h...

Duravision review...

Morning all, we've been using Crown Plastic's new Duravision topsheet material this year and it's working great for us. Put a sticker over it before layup and after you peel it off, it comes out with a clear and glossy finish that's UV protective and scratch resistant. Great clear topsheet for the p...

Woody top using the core?

So we are playing around with the idea of how to show off the core with a thin sheet of glass (5oz e-glass)/epoxy as the top sheet rather than using veneer. A test presses on a small scale has shown good results but we have to put all the glass under the core to make it work. Has anyone done this? I...

I've been doing a little insurance shopping and we can get a General Liability policy for $750 to start and $125/ month after that. I told the agent that we plan to sell upwards of $15,000/year of product (Gross price). Coverage is up to 1 million dollars for product insurance.

Thoughts?

That's pretty f'in cool, I took an average of the 10 responses so far and we have built 298 boards and/or skis between us.

Pat yourself on the back everyone, that's impressive!

Now if we can just combine our talents, we may have a profitable future?

Thanks all, good thread.

27 boards built in 3 years at it and I'm wondering how we rate against the veterans that have been building for a while? How many boards/skis have you built and how long have you been at it? ...and what kind of press are you using? We're still on the vacuum press but its working well for us. -Cheers...
