Testing is promising.
The material tears before the bond tears.
Expect to sand and flame it.
I actually tore out some sidewalls on a few older boards and poured. Got tested out at hood by some guys and they said it survived a good beat down.

How to make urethane sidewalls

I built a trough to make profiled urethane sidewalls. I'm getting some pretty good results. The trough is just some angle iron with abs plastic as the bed. Supports to give the profile are a few scrap peices of base material and paint stir sticks. I have the profile pretty close to my core although ...

Urethane plastic vs rubber. What the difference?

I've used some "Task 16 Urethane Plastic" from the guys at smooth on with 3 boards that I did a sidewall replacement on. If anyone needs to do that, this stuff is super durable and easy to pour in. http://www.smooth-on.com/Urethane-Plastic-a/c5_1120_1157/index.html They also have "Eco...

man that one is tempting. I found a grindrite stone and belt on the cheaps close by. They are popping. Use a craigslist search tool for a nation wide search. That is a good way to find them and the typical prices they are going for.

Anyone looking to sell their base grinder?

Driving an hour to the closest machine is getting to be a bit much.
Must be wide enough to do snowboards.
Cash in hand.

PM me.

I have the Sestos PIDs. It took a while to get them to right. Definitely use the autoprogram feature. I had to do it a few times to get it to dial in right because it was heating up 10C over before it it would flip off the relay. After a few times it seemed to dial in better. Yes the directions are ...

I see. Thanks for the info. Suppose I missed reading that, but certainly have read to use acetone, maybe on other surfaces.

sidewall delam

I got ahold of some local abs near me and found out it wasn't the right kind so I'm having some delam and cracking issues. Thank god I found it early on. Thinking I'm going to try urethane. Anyway, the flame job didn't oxygenate the surface of the abs enough to get a good bond. I peeled the ply off ...

Edit: Nah, I take it back, the sidewall is just too damn thin and the router spins too fast. I have a few more ideas I'll try down the road. Got my spiral bit today and tried a quick brush over some sidewall that was attached to a core. The spiral bit did have less bite on the sidewall so I think it...

Awesome post dbs. Your content is always great. I'm nothing close to an expert on what flame treating does, but I've heard a thing or 2. Flame treating changes the chemical makeup on the surface of the sidewall. I've heard that some materials will, cardboard being one will reverse or reduce the inte...

8 in layflat fire hose $7.50/ft

I got 2 rolls from the local fire dept. It failed their leak test so I can't say they are leak free, but it is what I use now and it is totally swell. You'll pay actual shipping charges. I paid about $60 for shipping last time I ordered some up, so expect something like that. Trying to put something...

Tried it today with a regular bit, sure enough it chips right off. I did have better luck sliding the router the wrong way, which risks it jumping, iik. It also makes an equally as big mess. I might try that spiral bit, but they are bit pricey to find out it fails. Anyone got one laying around to try?

Hey summit. Was your bit trying to pull up the base at the end, basically trying to eat it? Or, was it so thin that it was breaking?
