cassette ideas

Does anyone have a killer plan or idea for making a cassette for pressing? If you have pictures and a sweet design I would love to slightly copy your great idea. Thanks

'nother question... I read about a ski that had what I think was a steel plate from tail to 3/4 of the ski so there was almost no flex except in the tip. Has anyone tried anything like that?

I have noticed on the skibuilders (howto) page that they have 'black ash' and 'paper burch'. I don't know different woods by that specific of a name, are these two common? Has anyone used these and would they be good for a binding area?

Thanks for the advice. I didn't plan on using metal right away, more of a curiosity thing. I have skied a couple of Nordica skis that have 1 or 2 sheets of metal in them.

Have you made any skis with a metal layer? I figure it would be aluminum and not steel for weight and flex. I am just new at this and trying to find advice.

That "big mac" core is nuts. Do you know of a good dealer to get aluminum or steel plates for skis?

Douglas Fir or Hemlock Fir

Does Douglas Fir or Hemlock Fir make a good core? I looked at its density, modulus of rupture/ elasticity and it seems like it would make a good flexy core. Has anyone tried this, or know why it may be good or bad... Thanks for the tips

Sorry I never thanked you for the info, but did you happen to ask Folsom Custom where they got the fatty edge? It just seems like that size would be a beefier stronger edge against core shots and stupid jibs in powder. I could very well be wrong though.

Fiberglass, Carbon Fiber, or Kevlar for symetrical park ski

I am attempting to build a symmetrical park ski as my first ski and I am curious which of the three (fiberglass, carbon fiber, or kevlar) I should use in the layup? Or should I use more than one? all three? Thanks for the expertise

You could try a poppy responsive, well carving symetrical jib ski. Of the companies that make these, few of them are done extremely well. It could help the landing switch dillemma. I have been thinking of this as well. maybe like 145-100-145 poplar and bamboo.

2.5mm edges

I am noticing a lot of the independent ski companies are using 2.5mm edges. Does anyone know where I can get some edges this fat? I have not found them anywhere. Thanks

2.5mm edges

Does anyone know where to find bulk 2.5mm edge materials. the fattest I could find was 2.1mm. I can't get enough of that fatty edge
