Hypothetical: paulownia lumber

Hypothetically if I were to buy a bunch of paulownia lumber from wholesaler.....would there be any interest in folks wanting to buy some of it? I have no idea on price at the moment. I'm still waiting to hear from the supplier. Also not really sure how this would work with shipping and such

Re: Best cut of wood for core wood

the specific cut of wood does not matter as much as the direction of the grain when you lay up your core. You can buy flat cut wood (much cheaper), rip it into strips and turn it 90 deg to place the gain as close to vertical as you can. You might look for portions of the flat cut plank that already ...

Re: woodcore thickness

The thickness of your core will determine a large portion of the flex characteristics of your ski. In general a ski core should be no less than 9.5mm thick. This is so that it can accommodate adult binding screws which are 9.5mm long. Anything less than this and you run the risk of drilling thru you...

Re: Donek Drag knife best practices

I’ve been working with a gentleman from Germany on developing a Drag Knife add-on for Fusion 360 for the past couple months. It will be released in the next few days pending approval from Autodesk. As some of you know F360 does not have native dragknife support. This add on fixed that and then some....

Love it Steve!! I may finally play with some metal this season.

For me I'd probably recess the metal in the core. Maybe a 2.5"wide strip down the center.

I'd like to cut out a mesh pattern like the Nordicas a couple years ago but I have to figure out the CNC part of that.

OK, so after playing with the drag knife a bit and doing a couple nights of research I have written a tutorial for those that want to use the Donek Excel utility and do not have CAM software that supports drag knives You can read about it on the Fusion 360 forum or you can access the tutorial at the...

I actually use the table to make my initial passes then clean up the sidewall down to clean edge, then the tilt base router to cut the final profile and add a slight step of 2.5-3mm above the edge. I also bevel the top edge of the sidewall with a tilt base to reduce chipping. It gives the sidewall a...

Just run the bearing along the edge of the ski. Start with it tiger than you want at first so you don't cut too deep. Make sure to clean up your edge so you are down to shiny metal then lower the bit to your final height. Be sure to keep your base flat on the table top. When you get close to the roc...

^^MM, agreed for sure on all of that! Yes I’ll have to use the macro also. Somehow it’s dropping the code to start the machine. I have to copy and paste it from the original file into the corners file. Probably because of this something is also off with my feed rate. Still working out some bugs ...
