I always used packing tape...if you pull it when it's still warm from the press it comes right off easily.

Hmmm, pretty easy to assess these problems in general; incomplete wetting out of the cf in layup or surface contamination on the core or too much pressure (probably not this).

So, here's what I do: Inserts .010 taller than the topsheet material, press board THEN take a crayon broadwise and rub it over where the inserts should be. Walla! Inserts show up every time. ^ bingo ). My blankets are, as I recall about .080, so just route that recess to the width of your blanket so everything lays flat when you screw the aluminum down. Alternatively, just leave the outside ribs .080 higher...either way.

ahhh, not sure...on the face of it I don't see why it wouldn't work, but I've never used a vacuum set up. Sorry I didn't see that )

Those look beautiful! You're getting good! And yes, the convex is due to non-compliance with the form at the tip and tail...in your instance, not enough pressure.
