Re: CNC parts

here is all you need to build your CNC router: Xylotex 3 axis controller unit that came with 3- 425oz stepper motors for sale. All original cables, DB 25 connector, emergency stop buttom and setup instructions. Assembled and ready to connect to Mach3 software 3 ball screw (X, Y, Z) for drive with m...

Re: Low Density Sidewalls

Woah, you must have amazingly precise presses! I suppose I could go this route, but I feel that the risk of profiling through a 2.5mm sidewall into the core would happen on a regular basis for me. I need a bit of a larger margin for error than that ;)

Low Density Sidewalls

So it seems full length sidewalls are quite a large portion of lightweight touring skis weight, and if there were a lower density alternative one could save quite a large number of grams per ski. The problem is that impact resistance is so closely related to density Has anyone somehow done an lower ...

Yes! let me know how they work out. Really curious how it holds up.

What kind of Rohacell or you using?

Foam Core Density

I'm wondering if others have used foam as a core material, and what density they used with good results. Specifically I'm looking at Rohacell 51 IG which bonds well and has beyond adequate compression strength. What I'm really worried about is peel strength in low density foams, as this is critical ...

Thin Topsheet

Anyone know where to get a hold of thin topsheet materials in North America? Preferably .3mm or less

Looking at isosport icp 8210 as it seems to have been sold widely in the past.

Re: Success in W. Washington

I know that you can order paulownia directly from paulownia world (though it is a bit pricey). It was amazingly available locally for me from a boat building supplier. As far as layup: in my experience triaxial carbon fabrics aren't the best way to go. They result in skis that are much too stiff tor...

Nordic Skate Skis

Has anyone experimented with nordic skis, classic or skate? Really curious about weights of fabric, +-45˚ and 90˚ that people have used before.

My flex algorithm and modelling simulators online seem pretty inaccurate when width decreases, and core depth increases by so much.

EndGrain Balsa

So I've heard the best usage of endgrain is in a static scenario, (boatbuilding, etc. where the sandwich panel is not undergoing flex). And that as a core material it does not perform well under dynamic stress (like we see in skis). Can anyone clarify its weakness (when not static) and why it differ...

Re: School me on bases: How much worse is extruded actually

Thanks, I had no idea extruded did not absorb wax.

I guess my assumption was that it did, just to a lesser degree.

School me on bases: How much worse is extruded actually

So I'm aware that sintered is denser and wax penetrates more deeply. But extruded just grinds and finishes up so much nicer (plus it's cheap!). So those of you with direct experience: How much slower, and how much more prone to nicks is extruded vs the lower density sintereds. Knowledge on nordic ba...

I'm really curious about this. Is the fiber reinforcement entirely flax?

I've been wondering about its damping properties in comparison with glass.
