Re: Jonrezz’s Build Log

Happy to help! The V slot I got from https://openbuildspartstore.com/ . they only list a few stock sizes, up to 2000mm, as you mentioned, but if you call or send them a message they'll cut it any length you want as a custom order. you probably can add smaller lengths together with some hardware but ...

Re: Jonrezz’s Build Log

Hey Andy! I'd be happy to share more! my press is made of 40x20 v-slot - I got mine from openbuilds.com Two 760mm (width) Two 2,365 mm (length) for hardware: 10mm M5 screws (get some shorter ones too, my latches work but they're a bit wobbly because the screws are a hair too long, not ideal lol) M5 ...

Re: Turn Initiation and release

this is one of those many ways to skin a cat questions - generally speaking; -shorter ski = easier turn in and release, less stability at high speed -moving boot position forward of typical setback = easier turn in and release, less stability at high speed -shorter radius = easier turn in/release, l...

Re: Jonrezz’s Build Log

Yup! I use this stuff for mold release: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00V7L4TGM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Regarding the supersoft - I soaked the veneer with and let it soak in for 5 or 10 minutes and then put the veneer sheets in between the plywood offcuts separated b...

Re: Jonrezz’s Build Log

Thanks! That's just a couple layers of standard 3.5 mil plastic from the hardware store painting section - The epoxy squeezes out the end of the board and runs into the channels under the aluminum cassette between the tip and tail blocks, so the plastic just protects the camber mold from getting epo...

Re: Jonrezz’s Build Log

For my next build, It's a 145 cm snowboard with serrated edges, hybrid camber & olive ash veneer topsheet that I finished with teak oil and polyurethane! The core is 2.5 mm at the tips, 6 mm underfoot & 5 mm in the center. 6 parallel carbon fiber tows between the feet and 1" wide carbon...

Re: Jonrezz’s Build Log

Hey! Hope everyone's been well. So I finally got around to building these! :D Here they are: https://i.imgur.com/RziDDt2.jpeg Overall I'm pretty happy with them. A couple lessons learned though - 1. I really need to flatten the veneer better before attempting the inlays - some of my leafs and flower...

Re: Adjustable molds - 90 degree slotted system

Hanners I know it’s 5 years after you asked for clarifications but here was my approach: I use a similar system as him but on a vacuum table and I use 1/2mm steps in height. I think 1mm would be too course. In total I have around 200 “height blocks” and it covers most configurations, I just make mor...

Epoxy sticking to base

I'm getting ready to press my next pair of skis and was wondering, what do you guys do to prevent epoxy from sticking to the base during pressing? The guy I've got doing my tuning was telling me that grinding it off is a lot of work so I'm hoping to make things easier for him. Getting my own tuning ...

Re: Jonrezz’s Build Log

Thanks Matt! I've been pre-occupied with a couple other house related projects that my finace wants done, but I'll update the thread when I get around to pressing them! I think I'm going to go with purple bases for these, but I did manage to find some sintered blue base material recently on skilab w...

Re: Jonrezz’s Build Log

Here's the first top-sheet I've created with the new 8' long laser! Fit is pretty good - there are a few spots that have larger gaps than I'd like, but I'd say overall I'm happy with it. I think the gaps were caused by the background veneer - I went with a paper backed for it, but what I didn't anti...

Re: Jonrezz’s Build Log

Thanks for the recommendation! I got it working in lightburn with a couple hours of googling though - you can edit the grbl settings right in the laser software! here she is on her maiden voyage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knX5fdiENtM cutting the topsheet for my next pair now! will post updates...

Re: Jonrezz’s Build Log

Thanks for the tips guys! I think I'm going to try to modify it with the bottom and top rollers like you suggest mammoth. I'd also like to share the project I've been working on and just got working a little while ago! After how the laser cut inlay worked out really well, I decided to extend the las...
