The base is clear the orange stuff is vinyl I used to keep the bases clean. I did a rush job removing it just to see what happened, and I cant really tell what m...

Right now I'm thinking slice off the lifted area and patching it with some scrape base and epoxying it back to the base. Good idea to do that or is there another way?

Need some help with post press

I removed my heat sheet only to see one ski much higher than the other, and my heart sunk. I removed everything flipped them over and found this. http://i41.tinypic.com/5otg1z.jpg The core somehow popped on top on the wooden peg it wasnt like that when it started to press. Is there anyway to fix thi...

Um sandy epoxy? That's too much hardner. I made a horozontal lam ski with 1/16 venneers and glass worked fine. Had glass but still. I've lammed decks with just wood no glass and it works fine. Mix was off or moisture or epoxy went bad some hiw contaminants or somthin. Nope not to much hardner, I di...

Re: Well that did not work.

What do you mean? why didn't it hold or what happend? The epoxy just didnt hold, after it was cured I was able to peel the veneer apart like it was a sticky on a note pad. The epoxy was cured but in little round piece almost like sand. One of the test was one side of the veneer with fiber glass and...

Re: Well that did not work.

Ok, I've did some runs with a bamboo veneer and was all good. Used West epoxy, very strong bond. Which veneer did u use? Is moisture playing part with the QCM? Thx. The poplar veneer was dry, clean and I sanded it to rough it up a bit. The epoxy just didn't take. Next purchase of epoxy will be west...

Well that did not work.

After reading the Fiberless skis thread I decided I would give it a shot. I ordered some veneer, did a few test with QCM epoxy and some scraps. Come to find out it doesn't hold at all with veneer/veneer or veneer/base material. So I tried another test this time with fiberglass (so much for fiberless...

Back in 2005 I was skiing on skis with 98 midfoot and people in the lift line looked at me like I had two heads. How far we have come since then.

I'm going to go buy the fir tomorrow, for the bindings I'm going to lay down an extra layer of glass in the binding area.

Eastern red cedar has a weight of 33 lbs/ft^3 and an elastic modulus of 6.07 GPa. So the modulus to weight ratio is 607 / 33 = 18.39 (I scaled the modulus up to get number that are easier to compare, actually it is 0,1839). Douglas fir has a weight of 30-33 lbs/ft^3 (average is 31.5) and an elastic...

look up the Janka hardness scale for red cedar, this will tell you how hard it is compared to other wood specie redcedar, eastern Janka Hardness: 900 lbf (4,000 N) Modulus of Rupture: 8,800 lbf/in2 (60.7 MPa) Elastic Modulus: 880,000 lbf/in2 (6.07 GPa) Seems ok to me, and comparing it to other wood...

I found some clear douglas fir at the same place, but from my searches on here it looks like it does not handle being shaped to a core at all.

clear cedar vs vertically laminated bamboo

Found some clear cedar and looks just like vertically laminated bamboo. What are the pros and cons of the cedar vs the bamboo anyone know?
