 I've had my first really good screwup. It seems I had too much epoxy on the base during layup and as a result the vds has squeeged (that should be a word) right outside the edges along a LOT of the length. tips are ok. So, lesson learned, but does anyone know if the pair would be a complete t...

Neatturns, bamboo is somewhat hard on cutting tools (relatively to other woods) because of it's very high silica content. If you're using HSS knives and they're getting buggered too quickly, you can look into carbide knives... sometimes it can work out cheaper in the long run depending on how much w...

Depends how you mount your moulds I guess. We pretty much machine a camber board for every ski, and mount tip, camber, and tail board to a flat chip board that slides in and out of the press. The total mould length for the 191 ski is about 205ish I think and I reckon we could reduce that substantial...

congrats, your first pair looks better than mine, even though I loved them and they skied ok, they are really junk in comparison to my recent work. Nice work. Thanks man! Yeah, I'm sure I'll look back and laugh at this pair at some point - Plenty of low hanging fruit there regarding improvements. C...

Okay, been way too long since I updated this. I love my first pair, I can't scrape the smile off my face. http://i.imgur.com/xTUG3.jpg So, the first pair have had 3 days, second pair mounted awaiting the chance, and the third pair are still a twinkle in my eye but hoping for this weekend or the next...

Having just gone through this myself, I can tell you that with my reasonably burly bamboo cores, I got about a mm of fall in camber underfoot, and almost perfect representation of the tips, tails, and early rise. Equal power top and bottom. I was baby sitting the ramp to ensure that the bottom blank...

Yeah, and what good is a 3m length??!! too short to make 2 sets of skis but WAY too long for one. 3000 x 1220 x 15 UHMWPE was going to be ~960NZD plus GST (15%) and freight. at that rate it would be better for me to get ski lab ones, although I bet freight would be a pain and they aren't quite long ...
