I'll add to, and perhaps correct, some of what Kevin said. I don't think the routing was the problem. The depth of the routing was damn near perfect, and it was definitely in far enough. By routing just through the sidewall up to the wood core, this left about a 1/8" gap or so between the edge teeth...

Thats right, there is no VDS between the sidewall and the core, the VDS is on top of the edges. I did NOT sand the core/sidewall after it was profiled, I guess I just assumed the profiling with the router made it rough enough (but its pretty smooth). So maybe just sanding the core really good, and f...

I really want to look at something else for my sidewalls. I hate working with the p-tex, the crap never bonds.

And just a quick note on how the skis skied on saturday... The tails are very soft (what I wanted), but maybe too soft, and the tips are too stiff (wanted them also soft). Not sure why, I wonder if I had the core shifted in the profiling jig, I never checked thickness of the core front and back befo...

Oh, the bottom isn't even 2" thick... its an inch. And kevin, your mold is 3/4" thick there remember. So I think thicker molds will help, and what the one guy recommended... threaded rod. Then the MDF can crack all it wants, but won't fall apart! Duh. We should have thought about that before. I thin...

That is where I got my triax for my skis, since my normal local place for composites (Fiberlay in Seattle) could only get me triax in large quantities.

The stuff from fiberglass supplies is perfect for skis.

I use acetone to clean up epoxy all the time, so do professionals working with composites.

You can use acetone as a solvent to thin epoxy as well (I use it to thin gel coat for spraying sometimes). Works like a charm!

Don't mean to bring up an old thread, but I felt it needed some updating. The original posts were some pictures of the clamp press I built a few years back when in school. The skis were complete crap, basically unskiable. It's amazing what a few years can do. I now know MUCH more about ski construct...

I'll give my little bit of advice here. A few years ago I tried making a clamp press. At the time I thought it was awesome, I only pressed two skis, and they were completely unskiable, but I was still very proud. Looking back, I can't believe I would have built something like that. In order to get e...

Hi there- Somebody emailed me and pointed this post out to me. Those are my photos, this was my attempt at making skis some 2 or 3 years ago now. It was a good idea (I thought at the time) but I wouldn't recommend anybody use this method. You don't get even pressure, and you really don't get all tha...
