Re: Ceruse finish
so I haven't purchased anything specifically for ceruse yet ($100 for a kit https://guitarkitfabric.co.uk/products/paint-set-varnish-dye-ceruse-effect.html ) but I'm really curious about the feasibility so I dug around the shop and tried a proof of concept using stuff I have laying around - the vene...

Re: Jonrezz’s Build Log
some more progress on this board; setting the binding alignment inserts here by putting a dab of glue on each, laying the base over it and aligning it with the sidewalls https://i.imgur.com/X7vMZpB.jpeg setting the mold length and then adding the spacers to make the "M" shaped camber: http...

Re: Polyeurathane Sidewalls
smooth-cast 300 is my current choice. the biggest drawback is it dries white not clear, so mixing in dye takes some experimentation to get the right color. other than that no real complaints. the yellowing after a few years is a bit annoying too, not sure if there's a solution to that or not, but it...

Re: Camber centering
to add to pmg's response, as I understand it, the narrowest point of the ski is commonly/should also be offset back from the center of the running length (so exclude the tip/tail) - generally 3-6 cm depending on the type of ski.

Re: 3D printers
Chris - agreed with the seams. Also it’d take a very very long time to print all that sidewall. I question the practicality of doing it that way even if seams somehow weren’t an issue.

Re: 3D printers
wow printing sidewalls would be interesting! I usually pour them but if they were printed that'd be way less messy and it'd be easier to get the color right (compared to mixing dye). my printer isn't multi-color but a color one could do cool designs in the sidewall too... I usually just do si...

Ceruse finish
Anyone ever try a “ceruse finish” on their veneer skis or boards? Like this guitar: https://www.reddit.com/r/Luthier/s/PgiC1uDit0 If you have, I would love to see your pics and hear your experiences and/or tips. I love the look. My thought is to do the finish on the veneer before pressing so the epo...

Re: Achieve extreme edge grip that race skis have
It’ll still make it stiffer but not by as much as having a 0 degree layer in the weave. Most race skis use titanol (it’s the trade name for an aluminum alloy, not titanium), which adds dampening and torsional stiffness. That’s probably the missing ingredient in my opinion. The added damping will mak...

Re: Achieve extreme edge grip that race skis have
not related to ski stiffness or the actual construction, but most race skis recommend somewhere around a 3/1 side/base edge bevel - and people sometimes use as high as 5 degrees on the side for slalom.
what bevel are you testing and have you tried re-tuning at various combos?

Re: Top sheet sublimation
I've used coda a few times and the sublimations came out good. They're the only place I've had it done, so I don't have anyone else to compare it to. I probably would've used snowboard materials but they weren't offering it for a while.. sounds like they are again?
