Re: Tape that can stay in laminate?

You can use a fiberglass mesh tape that is used for drywall/tile backer board but it does have some thickness to it so you will most likely see it in the laminate. It is not super sticky either so I don't really recommend that method.

Re: Soul Skis

I love the skis you have been making, and I have three questions for you: 1. Do you use a single or multi layer wood core? Multi layer vertically laminated core. Strips are usually around 3/4" wide. 2. How thick are is the wood core? I like stiff even though I only weigh 145. I usually go 13 m...

Re: Soul Skis

https://i.imgur.com/vPb6TqW.jpg https://i.imgur.com/DA6yejx.jpg Tuning just got a little easier. The shitty snow conditions prompted me to make my idea a reality so I could use my base grinder for side edging. I had a friend weld a plate to the roller rod so I could use it as a fence. The roller re...

Re: Base Grinder User Manuals

I've got the ST600 manual somewhere but I think it is on an old computer or backup hard drive somewhere. I am transitioning computers and need to get everything back in order. I'll find it soon. I promise!

Re: Grindrite st600 belt tension question

Tracking is the smaller knob on top although I can't get mine to track all that well. I just let it eventually
drift to one side or the other.

Re: thoughts on wood tip filler

I just use regular staples that are in a paper stapler. I tried my pneumatic one once on some scrap core and it blew it apart. I use firm but slow pressure on the stapler and it works well. You just need to be precise on placement if your sidewalls are narrow to keep it outside the edge.

Re: thoughts on wood tip filler

It's definitely feasible. I have done it with some tails that didn't have that much curve. It's just a matter of getting your thickness to the right dimensions and not going too thick for the given tip radius. If you are doing veneers, you can go with more than one layer and also add layers of fiber...

Re: Epoxy sticking to base

You could probably get away with a mold release on the base but I wouldn't risk it. I did use some Contact shelf liner once but it took just as long to apply and cut as it does for me to grind the epoxy off. I also try to keep the excess epoxy to a minimum and also use spray adhesive on the base on ...

When attaching your edges, put both on at the same time. This will keep them under equal tension and symmetrical.

Scrap Ski Base Material

I used some scrap base material to shim a toilet today. I've also cut some out with a hole saw to make a low friction inner wear surface for my mountain bike chain guide. Anybody else come up with some creative uses for scrap material? Maybe after I finish my bathroom remodel I will actually be able...

Re: Flex of Ski: Stiff or soft front

The only skis that I can recall that had softer tails were some of the older Salomon pow skis. The concept was that the tails would sink and allow the tips to rise and plane up. I personally didn't like them and thought they washed out in the tails. How are you measuring stiffness? Are you obtaining...
