I have had great luck with these. Just the right geometry.
As a bonus, they are inexpensive and readily available.

Don't use steel wool
I did many practice runs of Al gluing. Steel wool does not properly abraid if you want to have good sticsion. I tested with a 180 grit sand paper that with light abrasion and got great adhesion. I'm going to use more elbow grease next time.

13 mm under foot
Lets talk about over building for a second. My first profile came out at 2.5mm tip, 13mm underfoot, and 4.5mm tail. Laminated with 22oz, triax above and below the maple core. This is very stiff ski, quite simular to a pair of race slalom skis. I liked the backend of the ski very much. The front end ...

West Layup
After 4 months on the project, I am getting very close to layup. To date, I have build all required tools for the job, laminated cores, bent edges, created base template and own all materials to move forward. I am hoping to press by the end of the month and get some days on them in March when there'...

My East coast skinny ski
When I moved back to Maine I had to get myself a midfat. As luck would have it, I finally got my hands on a pair of 190 Explosiv's (It only took three years to shop form them before annual stock was sold out and I was shorted by 4 cm of cord length.) But what I have been left with is a first class, ...

I'd try to make it
I am living in Maine at this point in time and have should be completing my press in the next few weeks. If my timeline can hold, I plan on skiing on my first pair on my birthday at the end of January.
I would be very interested in meeting to ski and and talk ski building.

Did you use a thermometer with your press?
Just wondering what you got for a temp out of the heat blanket and if you insulated to reduce heat losses?

Ski design resource
Hose-man, I love the table of dimensions, glad you put in all the man hours on it! They will be real useful for all of us here. All die-hard number lovers will love the publication by John Howe, "The new skiing mechanics." John currently builds his own salomon/freeride skis out of Jay, Mai...
