Thx for the answer Luca. I've just pressed my skis. See below : http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/7400/p1080850p.jpg I am really happy with the result, but haven't skied them yet. The thing is, I really dopn't understand how a mechnical pressure is better than vaccum. It should be all about pressur...

Hi, I made it the opposite way, going from a mechanical press with air bladder to some vaccuum system. Looking at your skis, you were one of those who inspired me. What made you change of system ? I understand your concerna about pressure, but did you manage to make links between the skis you made a...

Hi everyone, looking ta skibuilders shop, i saw the 19 oz / sq yd Fiberglass (http://skibuilders.com/cart/products/Triaxial_braided_fiberglass_19_oz_price_per_meter-24-2.html) Then it said, it's 744 g/m² ... As I'm not used to the american system, I looked for answer and saw : x 19 ounces = 538.64 g...

all right, that sounds ok. One of my friend working for Pierre Gignoux (manufacturing the lightest touring boot ever : http://www.pierregignoux.fr/France/XpCompetition.php ) told me they were also pressing thanks to vacuum AND a counter mold to enhance the finish (no topsheet on boots of course). I ...

vacuum & topsheet ?
Hello everyone,
Do you know if it's possible to use a topsheet when pressing with vacuum ?
Obviously it would force the resin to escape on the sides of the ski as the topsheet is not porous, and therefore the drain might be different.
Has anyone ever tried this ?
thks

After having brought my skis to the skiman last week, I've seen that my base was slighly concave, and we did not made that recess for the edges... Do you have any idea why ? http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/9132/p1050885640x480.jpg I guess the best way would be to use a shaper. DBS, can you explai...

"shouldering" cores for edges
Hello, I feel there's not so much activity on this forum lately...so I've decided to post any questions I had 8) So, I've seen many brands and also some amateurs machining each side of the core in order to compensate the extra height due to the edges glued on the base. A little drawing below in case...

All right, thanks for the answer. I was afraid I did not explore all the functiuns of snowcad. I have solidworks (but don't know how to use it) and autocad. I'll go for autocad, doesn't seem to be too complicated. Now I'm wondering what software is used in the industry...I'll ask people from salomon...

snowcads limits ?
Hello everyone, I am using snowcad to design my skis, as most of people here I guess. However, the design of skis has evoluted over the past years and I feel snowcad has some limits. For example, what if you want to design a ski with progressive sidecut ? Another point for me is: when you design som...

It is Carbon Fiber Kevlar I guess. Kevlar is the brandname for Aramid , and I've heard somme people say on this forum that it is harder to make it bond, as it's harder to wet the aramid fibers. I must say that I've had some problems with my pair of skis, but I can't really say if aramid is at issue,...
