Re: Top sheet sublimation

Thanks - it does look like Snowboard materials is doing them. There must be some others - Miller Studios used to do ON3P and DPS plus some water ski graphics. I know ON3P has been doing theirs in house for a while but I think Miller was doing DPS top sheets before they closed up shop. I’ve been plan...

Top sheet sublimation

Any suggestions for top sheet sublimation. I’ve always used Miller Studio in Auburn WAshington and just found out they closed last year. Anyone use Snowboard Materials or CODA - these are the only two places I’ve found so far. I was planning to do a couple of builds soon. Any recommendations would b...

Re: Round Top skis 19/20

Just use 3m spray adhesive about 10 cm long under the waist of each base and stick it to the metal sheet that sits on top of your wood mold. They’ll pop right off after pressing - use a good mold release. Any adhesive grinds right off in the first pass. I struggled with the same issue!

Re: heating a vacuum press

In my case it’s been less than 2mm. I usually do the layup, start to press and make sure everything is lined up correctly. Then as the press is reaching full pressure I use a laminate roller on the top of each ski at the tips and tails to make sure the top sheet is smooth. Then I’ll add heat about 2...

Re: heating a vacuum press

I might be wrong about the wattage - it might be 1800w. Ill check when I get home. I have no problem getting it hot enough. I use Entropy and using only top heat Ill press for about 1:45 -2:00 hours. I have made the mistake of pulling too early. Heat blanket just goes on top - I have to put some woo...

Re: heating a vacuum press

That all sounds right - I use a very thin piece of metal, then the lower heat blanket and then the thicker metal above if heating from the bottom. lately I've just been heating from the top - I lose a little camber but that's the plan. The heat blanket is 195cm x 34cm which is the width of the molds...

Re: heating a vacuum press

I’ll get Picts for you - I’m on the road so I’ll get some posted beginning of next week. Look on alibabba for heat blankets. I used Ali rubber and gave them the dimensions and wattage, wire for 110 blanket. I’ve found the emails but can’t find a link but I’ll keep looking - cost was 115 and 45 shipp...

Re: Vacuum Press

I use a metal sheet - aluminum over the mdf mould for layup. The pictures of my press have the aluminum sheet over the mould.

Re: Vacuum Press

The base of the table is two layers - the bottom layer is 3/4 mdf and the top layer is 3/4 melamine screwed together at the corners. MDF by itself is too porous and the vacuum won’t work as well. I copied OACs design years ago and haven’t changed much. The vacuum line is one hole in the center of th...

Re: Silicone sheets in north america

I would try to get a sheet that has a elongation in the 700 range - anything less is extra work. I couldn’t find anything reasonably priced in the states so a Chinese one was about $200 including shipping. I used rubber cal sheets for a few years but they didn’t last and weren’t flexible enough. Sam...

Re: Vacuum Press

The shapes were done in Draftsight which is a 2d cad program that is still free as far as I know. Figure out your design specs and start drawing. If you need specifics I can try to send you some of the drawing files but you’ll still need to download draftsight to open them. The 3/4 mdf was cut on a ...
