Thanks for the nice comments. It is a highly secret method that I am reluctant to divulge.... Hah! I just don't want to spend the money to have top sheets printed so I opt for tie-dye on basic cotton fabric. Don't see too much of this around so it fits just right with me! Hot coat is with the same e...

Paint your base

The other day I found myself with nothing to do and headed to the shop to clean up a bit. My son just finished a build and it looked nice. With one set of cores left, I decided to build the same ski and give it a try. Full symmetrical park type ski, 130-108-130 early rise tip and tail with camber un...

Sad indeed! Hope it works out for you. So what other options are there for shipping skis? I went to a ups store a while ago and took the whole package in to get a price. I was wanting to sell some skis on line and wanted to get an idea of ship price. I don't remember how expensive it was but it was ...

Love it when someone looks at the skis and says "good luck" or "no good" ect.... These are the same people who think a ski is good / great only after looking at the graphics! Definitely ski 'em and smile all the way down the hill! My sander sprays coolant as well. Need to look in...

How about using carpet tape on the top of the base to locate and hold the cut pieces? I use it to hold the tip fill in place. It is a weave type tape and allows epoxy to get in all around it. It is inside the layup and won't leave indentations. Only concern I would have is I would not want to have t...

Sand first with 80 grit. next 100 then 120. Off to the grinder for the final passes. All belts are broken in first. Use caution and light feed pressure with the 80 grit as it removes material quick. 3/4 wrap skis need additional caution while sanding. I usually start and stop before the ends of the ...

Is it really a concern? I have done it on some and not on others. I have a pair that are 6 yrs old without any treatment and they are holding up fine. The sidewall is poplar. Sure it don't look the best but most of my skis are used for a couple seasons only. Mainly because I make another pair... If ...

Binders?

Okay, So mounting my tele binders= no problems. However, I have a need to mount some alpine binders on two sets of skis (personal use). One set of skis is your standard design, full camber more of GS sidecut. the other set is camber, rocker front and rear (little rear rocker). the second ski is simi...

Hey Vinman, Something else I read about. Keeping this in mind it was for surfboards but seems to hold true when I did the ski. 1. Warm up the resin, not the hardener. This will help with the flow and leveling and will kick quicker. 2. Off gassing increases as the temp of the material increases. What...

Thanks. Normal layup. Cotton fabric that was tie-dyed as the top layer. After flash removal and base prep, I waxed the bases and left it heavy to protect it. The "Hot Coat" I spoke of is what they do on surfboards. It was originally called hot coat because they would add a little "kic...

So, Here is the finished ski. What I wanted to try on this set was to get a high gloss shine on the tops. These skis were pressed with cotton that I tye-dyed. normally I either just leave it after pressing or I put a few coats of polly on it to help protect from the sun and what not. This time I dec...
