Re: Increase in camber of the ski after getting out of the press.

Thank you for your responses. Today I did some tests and it turned out that the thermostat of one of the heaters is showing the wrong temperature. The difference between the bottom and top heaters is about 10C. I will continue to test. Bingo - this is the reason for your camber change! Many moons a...

I roll that shit out on the cnc and cut right away. Strap it to a template and egde it the next day. No issues. Strap/clamping the base to the template when edging is the key. Doing this I've managed to use some nasty base that would warp 5cm over it's length and still have straight skis in the end...

1. without seeing a diagram of you'r skis I'm guessing - but based on what I build go for 20cm back form the tip and 10cm in from the tail. If you realy want to go for a flat bit, go for ball of foot, not boot center. This should also bee your cores thickest point. 2. If you've built boards before t...

I will admit a guy could play with his core thickness to achieve a desires flex as this stuff specs out pretty strong, but at the flax prices that could get expensive I just figured out why the differnce in experience over weight etc.... - different flax supplier - this http://www.bcomp.ch/54-0-fla...

How much thicker would you say the flax composites are than a glass composite after it is pressed?
Side by side comparison, same ski, one glass one flax

Why are people mixing flax with FG or CF? why not keep things pure Biax Flax + uni Flax

ok this might not be the best place to be asking this. That aside: some thoughts on this pump? http://www.veneersupplies.com/products/Vacuum-Pump---Thomas-315-CFM-120-VAC.html I know 3 cfm is a bit low, but for that price it is hard to pass up. Wouldn't be worried about the speed - much faster than...

Hi Danielrahn I regularily make skis from flax - I use the biax and uni together to replace triax glass. I use it to replace 750gsm glass - If I keep the same core I put the Uni next to the core and the biax next to both the base and topsheet. If I reverse this I need to make a thinner core as the f...

oak seems to be good as a wood for sidewalls but i have read that it contais some sillicis (not sure about this word) which cause steel oxidation... If it is varnished - no problem. But varnishing sidewalls would be pain in the neck... But maybe i am wrong with that and also there are several oak s...

First off, keep things simple, very simple with the first pair - -you are on the right track with vacuum, serch our Davide's build threads - very simple methodology - I built my first 20 pairs this way. As for design copy, or at least base your design on something that you know works. When you have ...

Oak - nice and simple, good enough for castle doors and battle ships so good enough for skis.

I've probably made 100+ pairs and no problems so far.

Very tidy looking work there pmg, I'm impressed.

I also bend the edge to the base mold and then clamp to it when gluing on edges, stops any base warping from affecting the final ski.

Sweet spot as twizzstyle said has to do with manny things - I've found that some skis can have a huge sweet spot - you could mount the bindings 10cm, maybee even more from you centerline and they would ski well and others that 5mm mad them change. There was no defining factor between the skis, such ...

Errr no, not on some skis anyway

Some skis have an ok sweet spot on hardpack, a huge one in 5-10cm of velvet or heavy pow and then over 15cm of pow become progressively less ballanced and almost un controlable in deep pow
