How crucial is it to epoxy sidewalls to core pre-layup?

In the past I've always epoxied my UHMW sidewalls to my core before profiling the cores, after seeing that was a common way to do it. It has worked well, but it's a bit of a pain. I've seen a few companies (J skis and Folsom skis) who seem to just hold the sidewalls in place and let the layup adhere...

Heres some bad boys that I am super hyped on. I got a few patches made, and decided to do a fabric topsheet like I had in the past, but with some denim, cause the more denim you have when skiing the better. This one without a nylon topsheet, just a polyurethane coat, and involving the patches I got....

After having some frustration and troubles pressing longer skis I decided to totally redo my press. The guy that I had weld it the first time failed to put strong welds where I actually needed them, so although my welds aren't the prettiest, the press should be significantly stronger than it was bef...

I had to move my press and condense the opening mechanism. I used to have a hand crank that lifted one side, but I replaced that with a hydraulic long ram jack that hooks up to my air compressor. The video is sped up to make it look cooler haha, but using the compressor attachment it takes about 2 m...

Super still all mountain charger ...

I'll have to try heating the plastic in the press. But since I first had this problem, I have been doing a rough cut of the bases the day before I route them, (+ about a half inch or so of what the final shape is going to be), and then letting them settle. Its worked pretty well, but I still worry a...

Most controllers are done with PID controllers and solid state relays. Super simple set up, but I recently stumbled upon this pre-made Inkbird controller. http://www.homebrewsupply.com/inkbird-digital-temperature-controller-thermostat-110v.html?gclid=CIOBtsKlyc4CFQQKaQodxRgHDw . Costs a little more ...

yep MadRussian, decided to bail on the static converter. Just bought a 3 hp 3 phase motor off craigslist and some capacitors online. Found some simple designs/wire diagrams online that have worked for other people, and that get close to the correct voltage/phase. https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8851/2...

It is 3 phase so I need to get a converter or rig something up. Right now I'm looking at TEMCo converters, one like this one should work. http://www.ebay.com/itm/HD-1-3-HP-Static-Phase-Converter-Mill-Drill-Saw-MADE-IN-USA-Single-to-three-/251081245073 Pretty good deal, but they only supply 2/3 the r...

so stoked on my recent purchase. The guy I know who owns the ski shop was getting rid of an old Wintersteiger SBN 350 with the edge grinder that he didn't need anymore, and offered it to me for $350. Went over to check it out and came back with a new grinder. https://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7391/28190...

Finally invested some real time and money in my hoses, so they can get pressure without leaking and keeping my compressor on a ton. http://c8.staticflickr.com/8/7454/27064602535_9b8d5e70e4_z.jpg http://c3.staticflickr.com/8/7397/26459150914_acf8119a37_z.jpg . Super cool way to do sidecuts! I tried doing something like that a while ago, but it didn't turn out nearly as well as yours did, or really functional at all... Might have to give it another shot.

And another one, first ski I have made with plastic sidewalls in a while! Used a recycled UHMWPH from a local place and it turned out super well. https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5816/22589105154_0da1d2633b_z.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/581/22589111324_c371e1f9a8_z.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com...

First finished skis for someone other than myself! Super happy with them. Also the first time I have taken my skis to a legit shop to be tuned. I know the owner of a local shop who let me do it all on my own which was cool. Wide park ski @ 182, 104 under foot https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5739/22429...
