TBH, there is no normal. And it varies with board length and so many things. Just start measuring every board you find and get a feel for it. The range is prob 2-8mm from little to a lot for a 155cm ish board.

Its been 5+ years since ive used that program. Sounds like your machine might not be recognizing the file extensions. I'm wondering if your unzipping process its wrecking the extensions somehow. Post a screen shot of the file/folder and extensions?

100% agree with Tom's comments so far.
One thing-- if you have any warp in your base side to side, cutting down the middle would help limit the amount of material you need to get it flat.
Generally-- if you like your result, i'd say roll with your process.

I would think that the epoxy on the top veneer, sanded with 220 grit or similar would be a nice primer for adhesion. I will say though-- i had a past bad experience with putting a rattle can acyrlic on top of the wood, and then applying the PU clearcoat. I tried everything-- clear adhesion promoters...
