Hey Knights, Have you got any more of these going at the moment? Would you be able to ship some of these to NZ? Might have to do a bit of digging to figure out an effective number to ship. Maybe look at 16? If you PM me the weight and who you would use for shipping i could have a little investigate....

Yeah the side wall chamfer has yet to be perfected. When I did the red bird pair I did it on a mill, running it past a guide with the head rocked over. What was good is you could take small passes at a time but the process was frightening as you have to hand feed a mill while trying to keep the ski ...

While I am here, these popped out of the press in the weekend. http://i.imgur.com/OlSQsl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/SOUVJl.jpg I will be finishing them up this week while More and I get the geometry of the next pair right. They came out pretty good in most of the details but the casset took a bump on th...

Thanks Twizz. At this point it seems like it is all art with a dab of science. I personally am quite a fan of science. I have used measurements on the vectors for some things, but the effect on the curve of scaling that vector (i.e. changing the rate of curvature) is dependent on the position of the...

we have been progressively doing more and more of the side cut geometry with a spline. It came from wanting to vary the curvature along the length while maintaining smooth transitions. On the last two pairs we put a nice tight curve to start and end the side cut and a gentle curve through the middle...

Yeah we should have guessed. We did the layup of the Kerf 176 with more resin then the first pair and 1/2 thickness VDS strips. The rubber definitely shifted but is still visible along the whole edge. Should have guessed that wetting out directly into the ski was going to mean more goop=more squeeze...

I am so full of envy now. My pair (the 176 version) are so close, with just edge and dowel gluing to do. However after a mamoth effort over the weekend to get the first pair out, and a friends wedding this weekend to come we are going to have to wait just a few more days. Will be getting eges on and...

Thanks Brazen, you are absolutely right. We would kick ourselves if we did the first layup and ended up with big fat toes thanks to all the resin being pushed in one spot. We will get the gap closed before trying to do a layup. Will make some packing blocks up and see how they go. If nothing else we...

Thanks Falls, We will be having a look at the gap size before we put anything into it. I have a few ideas I want to try to improve it. First up we still have to add a bit of stuff such as heaters and maybe an insulating layer on the top so that should close the gap down a bit. The next step will be ...

Last night we managed to run the press and moulds (but no heat). Not quite a perfect fill out in the tip and tail curves but hopefully this can be corrected with a careful bit geometry changing. Closing the gap between the moulds a bit should help. At this stage it is around 70mm but can be reduced ...

I agree with twizz, it seems the selection is a bit hap-hazard. We chose our sizes based on what we could find that added up to an appropriate width for the skis we want to make. On paper any of the sizes we looked at (the smallest was130mm wide x 200mm tall) were going to give much better deflectio...

Kia Ora, So I am the guy who looks super stoked to be playing with a massive crane. What can I say? It is pretty sweet. Thanks to all of you who have done this before. The learning curve has been steep. I can only hope the payoff/ride at the end can be steeper. Regarding the mat builds, there were s...
