Knife guide for cutting bases.

Being dissatisfied with the quality of of cut my router and bit produced on base material and the huge mess that ensues, I decided to take it upon myself to reinvent the process in which I cut bases. What I dreamed up is basically a simple set of knife holders/guides to make quick, smooth, and accur...

Re: HONEYCOMB!

So one advantage of prepreg is the resin is typically "low flow". So you can cure with honeycomb and the resin won't fill the cells. I'd imagine wet layup resins would be too low in viscousity to mimic prepreg... Might be worth a test though! Damon I absolutely agree with everything you'r...

Re: how to widen my press opening

i also would like to make the vertical gap adjustable, maybe with car-jacks(but where to place them), or even pneumatic zylidners..but this would be a very expensive solution. Check out my press! http://www.skibuilders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=35997&highlight=#35997 http://www.newschoolers.co...

HONEYCOMB!

Well, I don't know if you have any intentions to resurrect the honeycomb idea from the grave. If you are still interested though, I think I have a solution which spawned from taking a one week composites course in Winnipeg MB that is identical to an intro course given to the Boeing manufacturer faci...

Well, ON3P did it with the Pillowfights, then Rowen's Paddles. No idea what kind of a core, or mould they're using, but digging around on those two skis might be a good place to start. Surface's Lab 001 is another ski to look into, but Surface isn't as posted or blogged about by themselves, so tryin...

Yep. I had a wrinkle in my packing tape to protect my topsheet on my first pair of skis and thought nothing of it. MAJOR impressions transferred into the topsheet.

Super 77

To keep my bases from shifting in my cassette, I've just masked off 4 sections, one for the tip and tail of each ski, with 2" wide tape, 24" long, to prevent me from getting any mold release on my cassette when prepping it for a layup. Then I remove the tape, spray the area's with 3M super...

I'm cheap...

If you don't have access to an oscillating spindle sander, then a sanding drum in the drill press with the drill press' pulleys setup for speed, then it's a great alternative. It will wear out the paper pretty quick as it doesn't oscillate though... But until I'm doing enough building to justify an ...

Yack Aha yeah, it is a pain in the ass to have independent bottle jacks. I would like to run a hydraulic line to interconnect both of my jacks across my bottom press support. One day... Yack Did you take a look at my post a few up? ;) Basically the same press design as yours, and the hydraulic cylinders are just jacks that give my about 5" of free travel for loading. The only problem with it is that you need a few different sets of locks if you were going to be continuously c...

Just curious as to what PSI/how confined your bladder is pressing at or if you're vac bagging? Are you getting a proper squeeze out when making skis? They do seem to be on the heavy side of things @ 11lbs for the pair, but not completely unusual for a ski that big.

Check out my ski press man. Link: http://www.skibuilders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3981 Just using two bottle jacks on each end of the press to raise and lower the bottom jaw, then I use a series of four "crutches" on each leg of my press to lock the lower jaw in place. They're fastened w...

.

So, I DO promise that I will sit down one night and make a good written build journal about my experiences. But seeing as my parents are on vacation (which is a window of opportunity to crank out a second pair of boards) I've been skiing some urban/yard setups at night, and skiing quite a bit on wee...
