Ok, so I've been playing around with some CAD software and thinking how to get the weight down as much as possible. I measured and the first and only pair of skis I made were huuuge (194cm), with 2753 cm2 @ roughly 2480g = 0,90gr/cm2 My new pair are also fairly large but weighs in at: 2453 cm2 Have ...

Ok so the fibers I ordered are as stated 450gram 33/33/33% triax carbon. 150g carbon in the 0 degree. Do you think that will be enough if I make the core slightly thicker then if I'd used 450g FG with more fibers in the 0 degree direction? Or would you have used uni carbon instead of thicker core fo...

i buy all my composites at hp-textiles as well! though i never order their triax because the weight is spread evenly across all axes, but according to mike from happy monkey you want more fibers running longitudinally. thats why i always buy 320g biax and 440g uni glass. Correct, it's 150gram in ea...

A german company: http://www.hp-textiles.de/MontuckyMadman wrote:where are you getting this fiber please?
Don't know if they ship worldwide but in E.U. It's fair shipping rates.

I used a 12oz biax 45/45 glass and a 9oz uni carbon with my thin core profile. Substituting ash or maple for poplar in stringers will increase both the 0 degree and torsional rigidity but only slightly increase weight. An all poplar ski doesnt perform very well in my opinion. You could make a 8.5mm...

I don't have an answer for your question about the stiffness of a powder ski but I'm sure some of the other more experienced ski builders can answer that. In regard to the poplar core, the carbon will stiffen it, this is the same thing that happens when you laminate it with fiberglass. The carbon f...

Thanks for all your help and input. It is very much approciated! :) I going to do some testing to see what kind of results we get from this. As for powder skis, does to torsional stiffness really matter that much? I'm not sure if a can pinpoint that feeling of a to stiff/soft torsional performance. ...

Pure carbon skis?
Ok, so the building is back on! This time I'm building two pairs of skis. One pair light(?) touring ski and one more everyday powder ski. I've tryed finding examples of people using only Carbon fiber CF, in their layup but didn't really find any? I would greatly appriciate if anyone who have used ca...

So, we are back from the trip and I finally got to try my skis! They were actually better then i would have dared to imagine, skied really well in chopped up powder, carved pretty alright in softer groomers and were a lot of fun and charged untracked powder like a beast! Love the length of the skis,...

How did you wet out the fiberglass (did you use a spreader, or a roller to apply the resin or some other method?). I'm with Twizz on this, it looks like your fiberglass wasn't wet out enough and possibly not enough pressure at the ski. And do you have an idea what the room temp was at the time? Als...

We are currently not usng heat but that is definetly planned to be added soon. Thef preassure in the 2 firehoses were 5,2 bar or 75 psi, but since they have some gap to fill they only had about 95mm contact surface each. But and since the ski are between 160 to 145 mm wide. So i guess the preassure ...

Okay so the honeymoon is over, my unconditional love for my first skis are already transitioning into me looking at them with critic eyes and searching for faults and ways to improve them. (theres a lot to be learned..) :) First thing I notice is the air bubbles and the white fiberglass in the epoxy...
