Re: core profiling

The long term solution is stop using a planer and start using a drum sander to profile cores and sidewalls.

Re: Sidewall profile (also new)

Profile your sidewalls 0.6mm thinner than your core so you don't need to rout a step for the edge tines.

Re: Splitboard halves gapping

I never said it was easy lol, but it does work perfectly.
Sand down some wood the same thickness as your edge, cut a strip about 5 or 6mm wide, glue it to the edges, use tape under the base to support the glue and handle it very carefully.

Re: Eliminating base warp....a guide.

Base material grows and shrinks with temp changes and edge does not to the same degree, so don't glue your edges on until the very last minute before you start the lay up and make sure the lay up surfaces are all at the same temp. Placing your base on a cold aluminium cassette will shrink the base w...

Re: Finishing Veneer with Epoxy bleed through

Cover the top sheet in epoxy, lay a sheet of baking paper on top and press, do not sand it once it is pressed.

Re: Splitboard halves gapping

Even with perfectly straight edges before pressing my splitboards always come out with a substancial gap in the middle. I make a thin strip of wood, the same thickness as the edge and press with the strip glued in between the 2 halves, like this I get perfectly straight edges.

Hey man, maybe Im not looking at it right but that press seems to have almost no support in the direction you need it, and those non penetrating welds scare the shit out of me!
Stand behind a solid door when you fire that thing up lol.

Haha one day you will look back and laugh. The urge to press a board is strong but each step requires respect. You are far better off pulling those off and having another go, gain more experience and get a better board in the end. In fact forget pressing for lets say a week. Bend those edges, then s...

Your bending skills are up to shit haha, no offense ;) and it will get better with time.
A super accurate bend is critical to getting a super tight fit, its all practice. Also keep your superglue usage down to a small dot every 50-100mm, using too much.is asking for delamination.

Dear Akiwi, yes it is expensive, we decided to produce our on inserts it is much more cheaper. But still the problem with magnetic caps is not solved.... you need to align your top sheet so that it can be installed in the exact same position before lay up. Then tape it to the core, flip it so the t...

My first board I made a full sized template and then used a laminate trimmer to "cut" the base. What a waste of time and materials not to mention it left a heap of swarf on the under side of the cut which had to be removed. I now series of templates and cut by hand with razor blades. Its f...

I get consistently beautiful camber with and without veneer, so I would not assume that is your problem. I use sicomin epoxy and heat to 100°c/bottom 80°c/top for 10 mins, the whole process takes 25 mins. I pull it 30 mins later and cool it on its side. Personally I think the short sharp heat cycle ...
