I am looking for free skis with little or no damage. I cut them in half and. Then laminate a strip of another ski into the middle, Making a fat shaped ski out of that old straite ski your mom used to ski on. I allways scoope the ski swaps for some potental custom fatty stock. All I know from the marine industy is a bare metal surface can oxidize in about 30 min.
When I protect a metal keel I will sand bare,
wash degreaser/solvent (interlux 202),
Acid wash (ospho)
and epoxy.

core cell foam
I have used core cell foam with great luck. I'm 270 lbs. Alpine ski coach at GMVS, and I always like my skis soft flexing, but torsionaly stiff. You will find a softer ski wil break down faster.
