doughboy, Let us know how that goes. I have some 12 oz bias 45 45 for my next pair of skis with some 5 oz uni carbon. The plan is to lay up two of the same pair of skis, one with just fiberglass and the other with the fiberglass/carbon combo. It's always fun to experiment.

I have also used cvg fir for cores. As others have also said I have used maple and bamboo as stringers for binding screws and as side walls. Overall, I think fir has very good strength to weight ratios.

Great videos, thanks. I know a custom ski shop that uses a planer on rails for their core profiling, they have been using it for years. I'll see if they don't mind a picture next time I'm there. Montucky, I have been using a hand planer to start planing cores as well, then send it through on the pro...

I have tried the dowel through the core and the wood blocks on the outside. Both worked ok, although I think I liked the dowel through the core better. I already have the rare earth magnets in different thicknesses to try on the next lay up using a steel cassette. I plan on just coating all the magn...

Doughboy, Thanks for the info. I have actually been gluing down the base as well. I am thinking the magnets will be used more for core alignment so I don't have to drill a hole in the core for the dowels. I think I will continue to hold the base to the skin/cassette with the glue. I'll just have to ...

I am about to try some magnets as well. I am just going to use steel skins/cassettes in stead of the aluminum I have been using. I bought a bunch of neodymium magnets off of ebay in different thicknesses, 1/16", 1/8", 1/4" and 1/2". My plan is to cover them with mold release and ...

Sam, Don't have any first hand use, but from what I understand the guy making them is the original owner of ascension. I got skins from him when he was in a garage in Jackson and I am still using them 12 years later. I far as I can tell he is still using the same tip and tail kit on the first pair. ...

I was just looking at sign foam the other day and thinking I would give it a try in a pair. It would be great to here more about your lay-up and results. Maybe this should be in the design or materials forum.

I wouldn't use cedar as a sidewall. It's much to soft in my opinion. It also won't give very much support to your edges, it would be much easier for your edge to get bent from rocks. I do think it would be interesting to try it as part of a core layup.

The new vacuum press looks great. Not having to deal with bags must be nice. I would like to hear more about the materials and construction if you don't mind.

Is it woven or stiched? It looks like it's woven in the picture, but it's hard to tell with the quality. Let us know how it works out.

Jekul,

Glad you found it. I looked for some in the past, but it was so expensive I never got any. Where did you find it? Was it a reasonable price? Thanks for any help.

I am having the same problem as alexisg1. When I import the dxf to autocad it is a lot of tiny lines that make it unworkable. Is there an easy way to fix this? Carnold, it seems this is what you are doing, any suggestions? Any books in particular for learning autocad that anyone likes? Thanks for an...
