Not as much an issue as you might think. If you buy a motor with the same frame, they pretty much are a direct swap. Phase converters are even easier and not too expensive. Grizzly has a 3.5HP to 7 HP phase converter (240V 1PH to 240V 3PH) for under $220. http://www.grizzly.com/products/Static-Phase...

I would not be too concerned about the 3 phase; change out the motor(s) to single phase or even easier would be to get a phase converter.

All, I came across a Wintersteiger ski tuner; double belt and side edger in Palmer Lake CO (North side of Colorado Springs). What design did you use on the press? What steel do have? I've been considering building a press (I'm in the Colorado Springs area).
