Layers of 6 oz glass get a clear look. You can orient the fibers how you like. Hit the back arrow to see the photos I'm thinking of,

And Fiberglass Hawaii sells vac bag by the yard in tube form so you just slide mold in and seal end. fast and less chance of a fud up. They also make a great and cheeper copy of west epoxy. I use alignment pins that go into the mold so everything is perfect. Wax on the pins allows them to come out.

To be on the safe side use a wood dye as opposed to oil based stain for a good bond.

Celebrating a fresh new split board!

Oh! I really like this new board! I used vertical grain fir and eucalyptus saligna for the core. Tahoe conditions have been thin but really fun for the last month and a half so a much tougher core made sense. I made the core very thin tip and tail. Tapering to about .062 inch to lighten the board an...

Ya.Thanks! I have veneer that's just right for the job. I think I'd skip the additional layer of glass since this backcountry split board needs to be light. Plus I used Saligna eucalyptus to support the edges. Bomber.

Tricks to using precured triax sheets?

Do you just cut it to fit inside of the edges of your base and call it good? Or mill a bit to fit the tangs of the edge. I'd hate to lose that glass for rock hits. Tahoe is rough these days!

I have a nice core that I want to do the same with. I plan to do some testing with 4 layers of 4 oz glass using Fiberglass Hawaii 2 to 1 aluzine epoxy. It's a great UV product that lays up very clear. You can buy some yardage and bias the layers how you want.

http://vimeo.com/38662068 Here's todays test. Low visibility so I couldn't cut loose. So in sticky fresh snow the skinless climbed well but felt about 15% more drag on the downhill. At 2 minutes in the vid I switch to the 135cm full rockered board made for these conditions. Very fun to ride. It is ...
