Twist, Twist...
Hoo boy. I had this happen too. I feel your pain. I think you may be onto something about the heat. A couple questions. Are all the skis twisted the same way? ie. Are all the left shovels/right hips touching, or are they switched Right tip/left hip with the ski's sibling left tip/right hip. Are you ...

Sidewall dams
Sidewall dams The dams are made of wood. They have a .5 mm deep by 2 mm tall groove, or kerf cut into a corner. They are then profiled to match the core of the board or skis + 3 mm. They are then mold released do they dont stick to the sidewalls. I am currently using a wax and am somewhat concerned ...

Weigh this....
Thanks for the info on Boeing Surplus, disappointed as I am. I have moved to Golden bc from Whistler 6 years ago now. Haven't been down the I-5 since. The weight of the board is pretty similar to standard layup. I end up using 12 + 9 oz/sq yd per facing. Thats 21 oz/sq yd total, compared to 22 oz tr...

Autopsy
Time to do an autopsy! First, are the bindings leaving marks in the topsheet. especially at the "corners". cut the upper facing along the broken part of the core with a razor knife or a sharp chisel. really look for signs of areas where the core did not bond to the facing material. Look fo...

So, board cured. Then post cured at 145 f for 3 hours. cool down and start pulling off layers. Here's the peel ply coming off: http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff471/carlitocan/powder%20specific%20board%20construction/IMG_5529.jpg Here is a shot of spotting the inserts by laying the template back...

Layup
Here's the layup post. If I am being too specific/boring please let me know, I am new to posting stuff and don't really know the ethics/stye of this stuff. Layup sequence for this board (bottom to top) is as follows: p-tex/edges. Kevlar lacing on edges. VDS over edges. 12 oz/sq yd biax carbon. 2 tim...

Answering questions
I'll try to answer questions asked. The clamps i got from Boeing's surplus store years ago. Whenever I would head down the I-5 I would leave at least 4 hours to do a walkabout there. Too bad i never had enough cash on hand. Seriously awesome place. I also got the insert countersink device from there...

Base and edges
Once the core is done i glue the base to the press with some contact spray adhesive. Then I cut out the base with a razor knife from the template. I am currently using half templates and flipping them. The main reason for this is that the tip curves will at least be symmetrical, and it is easier to ...

Next....
Okay. After routering core and hardpoints I use a template to trace out the shape of the core onto the hardpoints and drill out the holes for inserts and rabbet for edges. At this stage I allow myself some latitude to get creative and try to reduce weight. Basically i will cut away anything I figure...

adjustable router jig.
My two cents here. Kingswood jig looks like it can be easily adjusted. I had a similar setup. Had. I found it to be a pretty big pain in the a$$. The adjustability is nice, however it can be hard to replicate cores after you have changed the jig. Ah, its not hard so much as it takes a long time. you...

p-tex warpage and the never ending story
Been there. had these issues. long time ago i used to cut bases out on a table and use the cutout in the press etc. Then one day we put two snow boards together, base to base, and they weren't the same. Dooh. The realization that there are internal stresses in the p-tex that were revealed when cutti...

Ah. photobucket you say. Ok so i will try to get this setup in the next few days and I will start a post in the journal section. Been getting into the shop despite plague in the house with the kids and stuff. Core shaped/profiled including inserts/strengthening plates; base cut out and on the press;...

Nice board!
firstly, nice looking board. just built a splitboard myself. yeah, they are a lot of extra work. I had 34 inserts in mine. jeeeeesu. you really want to try to get the inside edges tight so as to minimize slip/twist while going downhill. I don't know how much difference it really makes but bumps sure...
