Carbon ski

I'll be honest. I haven't been on the forum for a long time and I didn't research the heck out of this before I posted it so nobody will probably answer. Do any ski manufacturers or anybody here make skis/cores out of layers of carbon or is their always a core in the middle? How many layers would/ d...

Builders in Colorado

What other builders are on the Front Range in Colorado. Let me know if you want to get together and make some skis.

Gluing edges on the wrong side of base.

I glued the edges with the teeth on the smooth side of the base and not the textured side. Is there a way to still make this bond well, or do I just need to start over? I feel like an idiot.

If you ask me it is just another way every ski manufacturer uses Smoke and Mirrors to make customers buy their product. From being in the industry and talking to companies at SIA every year I have become very cynical to 'new technology' in skis. I want to get into building skis professionally but I'...

Pressing learning curve

How many pairs of skis did you have to make before you really felt like you hit your stride on getting everything pretty on-point when you pressed? This is just a fun topic. I have pressed four pairs of skis and I am still feeling like I learn something new every time.

Thanks all. I think spending a few more minutes during layup and have a better blocking method. All of my equipment is super ghetto too but I will update all in good time.

Keeping edge flat while bending.

Hello all, I am at a frustrating point in my layup process. I have yet to be able to find a way to keep the edges from torqueing and twisting while I bend them around the tip and tail of the ski. I am sorry if I couldn't find this thread on the forum or if this topic is beating a dead horse, but I a...

wood vs ptex sidewalls. What's your preference?

I'm just curious why people prefer wood or p-tex sidewalls. I started buying a 1x6 at 6' of hardwood to rip into sidewalls because it seems cheaper, but I don't know if it will screw me in the long run. I have pressed one ski with wood sidewalls so far and it has held up a season so far.

Methods to keep core/ base still during press.

My last pair (#3) of skis had a core shifting issue. Before this pair I used small brad nails through the sidewall down into the bottom mold to keep everything in line throughout the process. I stopped that after the second pair of skis had a nail going through the base. So I tried another method (b...

Oh thanks everybody. I sanded the one side on a belt grinder with a very low grit belt. I also did not flame treat it. I'll try a better method, use gloves, and flame treat next time.

Base Material as Tip Fill

Is anyone using different color base material to substitute as tip fill for their skis? I tried it because its the same stuff, scuffed both sides but my skis keep delaming. Thanks.
