Had a few days off, what with work and being involved in a big kid's ice hockey tournament (3 days, 3 sites, 200+ kids, 195 matches, one result co-ordinator - guess who that was). Anyway, finished up my core this morning. Rabbeted, profiled, shaped, drilled for inserts, slightly bloodstained after s...

Are you guys using local IPE, or do you mean the species taken from Brazil? Mine came from La Giettaz en Aravis . Mind you, the tree the plank came from probably grew in South America originally. You need to clean and sand it before bonding, but once that's done, a D3 woodglue will hold it really n...

However, I'm not sure about how the inner tube would behave inside a press frame. I.e. will it just bulge out on the sides of the press and exert very little force onto the laminate? Is so, are there any feasible methods to fully contain the inner tube inside the press? An inner tube will, indeed, ...

Fill it with a paste epoxy for wood, sand smooth. If it had been a small nick, I would have. Unfortunately, a nearly half-inch deep hole in the side of the core calls for more a more radical approach. Frickin' router. So, I've re-shaped the sides and it's currently clamped up with a couple of extra...

Oddly enough, HOT snowboards (now part of Hammer, and no longer producing alpine boards) used to make their Blast series with horizontally lammed cores. I suspect they lammed them themselves, though, so probably using rather different glues / epoxies than those used for flooring. I've got 2 of them,...
