Yeah, know where you're coming from. In Les Saisies, where I work, we had a *total* cumulative snowfall of 1m60 between November and April. One metre 60 centimetres. Total. That's ~5'3", for those that work imperial measures. Five feet 3 inches over the entire season. To put that into perspecti...

Indeed. That's way fatter than my B3s, and nearly as wide as my skwal.

Nice graphics, though.

First off, I'd like to say a big thank you to whoever is hosting the site at the moment. And to the various moderators, who do a lot of work behind the scenes that most users never see or appreciate. That said, there appears to be a fair amount of work that's pretty much required. Most urgent would ...

Mixing with a drill doesn't imply "turn the dial to 11 and hit the go button". Like a food mixer that you can use for mixing dough or beating eggs, most drills have a variable speed. Obviously, the mixing has to be done with care, or you end up with beaten eggs rather than epoxy, but you g...

The problem with (UHMW)PE and other polyolefins (including polypropylene and the "grandaddy" of non-stick plastics, PTFE) is that they don't bond. Their innate low energy state makes them a bastard to stick to anything, even to themselves, without very special glues (3M DP8005, for example...

What Flow bindings give is, indisputably, ease-of-use. It doesn't matter how hard the materials you make them from are, you'll never end up with a truly stiff binding - the design won't allow it. That doesn't make them suck, but it doesn't make them stiff, either. If you want *rigid* freeride bindin...

Base treatment

So, been following this quite closely (I'm doing an all-wooden, edgeless, swallowtail, and gonna do an all-wooden skwal), here's some stuff I've found on base treatment: Firstly, a popular science article on treating your skis, circa 1941 : http://tinyurl.com/65le5ne The above mentions "ski lac...

Belts are difficult to keep on drums once they are spinning. You actually want your drums to be non-cylindric, and have a *slightly larger diameter in the middle*. It's the same principle as bandsaw wheels (I saw a homemade bandsaw last week that used, I kid you not, motorcycle wheels with tyres sti...

It's a pretty nifty idea, and it's fast - combined with using a reverse router bridge for final profiling, it could cut a lot of time off if used as a "first pass" rough cut. On the other hand, chainsaws need oil on the chains, and something tells me chainsaw oil doesn't make for good bond...

Cheap prices for indy manufacturers are pretty much general, I think. One of the guys at work has a pair of hand-carved wooden telemark skis from http://www.skis-bois-tardy.com/, they cost him 400€. A pair of telemark-specific decks from Rossignol go at least 600€, and you don't get a personal hando...
