I think these braided Fiberglass sleeves are really cool. You could wrap with a tube of 0 and then a tube of 45/45. Maybe skip sidewalls and leave the fiberglass exposed. Or if you had a good cassette that could hold sidewalls on you could add them during layup.

The undeniable advantage is that heat makes the epoxy cure faster. A 4-6hr cure can be turned to 45 minutes. Heat also helps the epoxy cure better, resulting in better mechanical properties. Stronger, more durable, etc. It has been debated here lately whether the 45minutes of heating during curing i...

The reason for it is you can make the press for $100. same goes for a cordura press and pressure distribution is easier with cordura bags. Right, I meant fabric presses in general. My press is cordura as well, and I think that the cordura is in most ways preferable to the dyneema. The main advantag...

It definitely is possible to squeeze too much epoxy out. At what point that happens I couldn't say, and would depend on your specific layup and expoy selections, but don't think that you can up your pressure indefinitely and not end up with too little resin. Maybe you would be better off at somethin...

Maybe I misunderstand, but I don't think you want to use acetone at all in the process. It hurts the bond.

Really, people who see it have no idea why it's there. Most people think it's on purpose and ask what it's for. Anyone have a good answer? ;)

Yea, I just did the same on my last pair of skis. Should be fine I'd think.

Sorry to dig up an old topic, but question were left unanswered, and now I'm curious too. Two years later does anyone care to share some more insight on what multiple radii do and why we care?

dyneema rope may stretch too much which will allow the press to flex/bend. I don't know if OP is still considering this, but It's not all that bad of an idea. Dyneema doesn't stretch all that much, depending on how it's made. Or at least in the rock climbing community dyneema slings are known to st...

17" should be wide enough for most skis.

Take this as advice of someone who's read this forum but doesn't have direct experience. Welded beams should be ok if you hold them together like this (ignore the text): http://www.skilab.com/misc/skibuilders/VariableTopMold01b.jpg or like this: http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u242/rockaukum/IMAG...

I'm just finishing up a pair of skis, and I decided to skip routing out a space for the edge this time. I was left with pretty significant dimpling where the edge lies and convex base. Rather disappointed. I wonder if there might have been other factors at play as well.

I think there's two ways of going about this. 1. Copy an existing design point for point as closely as possible. 2. Make up some sort of hybrid of the skis you're looking at. Make up the dimensions. One is 108 under-foot and one is 115? Easy, yours should be 112. The first method will give something...

Yea, something I'm slowly realizing. Just pulled out the skis after two more hours (for a total of 6) and they're done. I didn't run the heater at all, but when I pulled them they were still warm from before. Which was encouraging. Overall not a complete success, but certainly not a complete failure...
