Hey Crew, This is not exactly about the core shifting, but matches the topic. Has anyone experienced floating laminates? Used some uni carbon under transparent top sheet and when the board came out of the press, the stringers had floated all over and did not resemble straight lines even approximatel...

hey Nate, Yeah, I was just worried about exposing wood core when drilling down to the inserts after the layup. I have had a few boards pressed with inserts slightly shorter than the thickness of the core and when countersinking them during finishing process, the core got exposed and it was not a ver...

Hey Nate,

How are you going to clean the inserts out if they are buried in the core after pressing? If you are using a countersink, won't you hit the core on the way?

Hey doughboyshredder, you are right, its 200 mil... my bad. Yeah, I picked the pressure by trial and error. at higher psi we get a lot of print through from fiberglass to the topsheet. Thanks for the formula! knightsofnii yeah, I need to sort out some photos. The space between top of the mold (we do...

hey knightsofnii, I do put it in cold, then apply pressure, then heat. But you may be right in terms of pressure - pressing at 40 psi, with a cattrack, but the hose is only 250 mil wide when flat, so once inflated, the contact area is probably only 20 mil or so. I see skibuilders recommend up to 80 ...

Hey Rockaukum, The base is held with clips. And when we used a routed out cassette, it was sitting in the cavity held by the walls of the cassette. I thought the same thing, that the bubbles are just epoxy puddles that have set off prior to pressing. Gotta try flattening the base properly before lay...

Hey Shopvac, We get quite a bit of epoxy on the base and most of it is nicely and thinly spread over the base. But quite often along with this thin layer, which as you pointed out, grinds off easily, we get these epoxy dimples. They dont always happen in the same spot, so its not the mold. I had the...

Hey Damon, Yep, its a heated press, bottom and top. The resin is quite thick coz it has a toughening agent added to it so by no means is it free flowing. Having said that, it gets quite liquid around 65 deg. It may be the case that we are taking too long to lay up. Because the resin is quite thick, ...

Anyone experienced epoxy pockets under base?

Hey Crew, I've been looking and looking throughout the forum and could not find anyone mention this. Quite often we get epoxy under the base which is not squashed into a thin layer all over the base, but is gathered into sort of round epoxy pocket. Sometimes these can be pushed quite deep into the b...

Knightsofnii, I am with you on this. Burton's decks seem to have effective edge 4 cm longer than running length. And now when you mentioned that it could be due to widest part of tip/tail being off the ground, it makes sense. Doughboyshredder, I checked you post on "v" sidecut (the one wit...

Hey Nate,

Thanks for taking time to explain. I used exactly the same logic (going through sine, not tan) and I get the same results. It seem that the issue is less relevant to skis than snowboards. The conversion does not work for any snowboard out there.

I understand what you are saying. I know what running length is and what effective edge is. But if you look at a company quoting running length only and a company quoting effective edge only, then how do you draw a comparison? Especially, they dont give you tip/tail length, so you're guessing really...
