Re: heating a vacuum press

My experience is that the heat within a vaccuum bag really worns out the vac pumps! The ones I have are almost gone. Difficult to draw any vaccuum worth its name. FYI, I switched to regular press with firehose and compressed air. I won't ditch vaccuum. It's a good starting point. But its too messy c...

Re: Shaper Tool cnc vs. Maker Made cnc

I have had my eyes on this one for a while now... time to act? Mike, since you made the tip mold/template, have you any idea/feeling how long it will take to route a full ski template? A ski that's 170 - 180cm. I've read articles that praise the tool, but one issue or obstacle is the time moving it ...

Things that I have not foreseen in my sublimation process, The cooling down aspect/press!

Always something! ;) ;)

Re: Sublimation warping

I tried this yesterday. Bad idea...
Just when I put the base and print in the press (vac + 160C+ 2min) I realized that the base is a thermoplastic (polyeten). The base was almost "liquid" when I took it out and never found it's way back to it's original shape. End of story!

Re: Vacum press air bubbles

Hi I guess you're aware of that vacuum "apply pressure"/acting from all directions. Above, under, side and all other angels. I don't know how you're final set up looks like (pictures..?). What are you using, in the press or in the bag, on top of your skis/boards? Do you have the paper, tha...

Re: Cedar

Maybe too late... I made two pairs with cedar. Both delaminated. I accused the cedar for it although it wasn't 100% cedar in the core. I didn't do any thorough investigation, but my own suspicion is that it is somehow "oily" or whatever it contains. In my experience not epoxy friendly.

This didn't go as planned...

But no issue really. I moved the whole life to another "location" in Sweden. More on this in a new thread! Closing this one now. :D

Re: Round Top skis 19/20

Good job! Just a tip/thought for the future. When you're done testing the frame consider change it to a robust steel frame. It will spare you time from searching leaks around the frame. It will not solve the issue 100%, but much better than a wooden frame. :) And for the top of table, use some airti...

Re: profiling cores

@101: I just invested in a Felder AD741, not entirely for ski building but almost...:-). It's quite similar to the Hammer A3 41 you looking at. I don't know all the differences, but I choose the Felder for the electronic control of the planing table and it's more robust. I also choose the option wit...

OAC expanding in 2019

I don't know where this will end, but it's worth a try. Since I belong to the seniors, by age, on this site I can inform you that I've been on early retirement the last six months. This means that I have heaps of time, theoretical, doing what ever I want, theoretical. So I will use some savings to e...

Fun to see that I'm still on the top 10 list! :D As said, doing this for +10 years, I've more or less cemented my process the last 5 years. And the project that was only supposed to produce 1 pair(!) of skiable skis, has now grow to a bussiness. Therefore, in my case, not so much time. You never kno...
