i think burton used to (or maybe still does) use end grain balsa in some of their cores. not too sure so don't quote me on that.

snocad should be perfectly fine for designing the ski shape. as for shaping the rails i've come to learn that small inaccuracies aren't noticeable. that's just my thought but i've made some skis with major profiling flaws such as severely skewed profiles and even huge dents and i couldn't tell the d...

not that i know of. not yet. maybe a University of Ski Building in the future? but there is ski college in colorado that has several programs.

supposedly the extra edge helps prevent damage from grinding on rails, concrete, etc. i would try routing out a slot where you want the edge to go and tack the edge in place.

i'm currently out of the inserts but i haven't had much luck finding 1/4-20 screws with the right heads that fit my looks. maybe with some modification of the toe piece there may be a chance that you could get a screw to fit nicely.

i think the effort and time to make a clamp press would be much more than a vacuum press. and with a vacuum press it's more likely to get better results.
vacuum presses don't have to be very expensive either. i just a vacuum pump for $30 on ebay.
