From the pictures it looks like you are using a router for core profiling. Do you plan the base side of the core before pressing? If your core is not planed this may be the reason your base is concave.

With a little plumbing and heating tweaks you can probably have a heated water press for less than the cost of a heat blanket. I was thinking about the same thing. I think it would be manageable. I have a small water heater I got for free. I think it delivers about 70 deg C (140 deg F) at max. Fitt...

I really like the design. KISS :D I'm in the phase of designing my first press, and I have been thinking about a similar idea, but I have been thinking of filling the hose with air. Water makes more sense because it’s non compressible, safer regarding stored energy, but it’s messier. I think I would...

Any chance there will be a .pdf with the ’08-’09 skis?

This might be a bit out of topic, but anyway; As far as I know, the ”multi radius side cut” has developed the last years along with the new ski designs. Traditionally, the skis had a uniform flex pattern; either they were stiff or soft. For off pist skiing, a stiff ski with a lot of side cut is unpr...

G-man; I'm about to set up a heating system. I see you are using a 3’’x36’’ heater and a 20x200cm aluminum sheet on top of that. How does the heat transfer to the ski during curing? Have you noticed any temperature difference between the different parts of the ski? I’m specially thinking of the tips...

This is a good instruction, with link to a supplier with nice prices:

I bought my PID equipment at from Auber, and they have really good service. They also have plug-n-play controllers up to 1600W :))

One final question;

Basically, what epoxy would you recommend for ski building; Heated and non heated press? As you understand it has to bond allot of different materials, as well as being rather flexible and resistant to mechanical abuse, as vibrations and hard “hits”.

How does epoxy add to ABS vs. PA plastic, if there are any differences? Are there any preferred treatments of plastic before glued with epoxy to other materials like steel and wood? Would you prefer epoxy of ordinary glue used for wood when gluing the core together before profiling? What kind of rub...

I guess the extra cost involved in precutting the materials is saved by less machining during finishing

Svimen: I was a student at the machine engineering faculty some years ago, and I guess that’s a good place to start looking. As far as I know accelometers are rather rugged. In my previous job we used accelometers to do vibration analyzes. By analyzing the results, I think it would be possible to de...

Yepp, I guess it’s the high tech stuff that makes us come alive This sounds really interesting :) I'm at Oppdal every weekend during winter. Just give me a hint it you are in the area. I'll make Erik brief me regarding his flex analyzer. I hope It's more high tech than his directly-on-the-skull-mold...

This is starting to get hight tech! Me like :D I do agree that there’s no perfect flex, or perfect ski at all; we all have different preferences. However, I'm certain that making flex calculations combined with flex testing is the first step of how to make quantitative assumptions of ski characteris...

Very interesting discussion! I believe the flex curve of the ski is the most important factor when it comes to ski characteristics. Being an engineer, my ski making process has started with calculating the flex pattern I like to have on my dream ski, based on models I like and dislike. I’ve done alp...
