twill mainly because the roll we get it on is 50" wide and the plain is only 40". The 50" allows us to do one layer and a layer orientated at 45 degrees for torsion. So you think the hybrid is a bit on the light. interesting. To be honest i haven't delt with the hybrid before so im no...

New design. I want your thoughts

Hi guys. So here is our new design. I decided to post it up before we press to see what peoples thoughts are. both positive and constructive so we can make the best ski we can, especially as this one is costing us a bit. The brief: Slalom ski Race calibre 115-64-100 Stiff, responsive, huge rebound a...

Metal Above or Below the core?

Hi Guys I have seen a lot of skis with duel layers of metal in their design, almost all have one above and one below. However I am more interested in a design with a single layer. I know some of you have tried building skis with metal in the design and had both success and failure. What properties d...

Great work guys. You provided me with the information and the answer. I have ordered Gr2 Titanium sheet at 0.6mm (will document all this when we finally start this build in coming weeks). So my design is specific to CF/Ti. Not so much GF/FG So i guess my only drama will be the actual bonding itseld....

Guys Just a follow up question regarding bonding. It was mentioned (and to be honest I have only scoped around on the net for an answer and not throughly researched it) that carbon fiber 'cannot/not the best at' bonding directly to a metal layer. Is this due to different contraction properties in re...

Ski tip with a hole in it. e.g. 2009 fischer wc sl

Hey guys, first up, apologies about the time between drinks, i've been very busy! Has any one seen **or been on, the new 2009 Fischer WC SL? The only thing i can think of is possible aero reduction by allowing air to flow through the tip.. but it could also provide some extra torsional rigity to the...

Hey sleepyycp. I used that method with my latest pair. we cut out the sidecut of the core, and then made sure it was smooth and vertical, then we resin'd 4 strips on each side of the ski. It was easy and worked great. Durability is pretty good too! you wont be pulling them off in a hurry... The only...

i was in today getting my new gammas tuned at the shop, and the guy at the shop was telling me how soft my bases were... He also asked me with previous skis, were they soft and when you wax them and apply heat for a few secs in one spot they would get loose or almost bubble.. any way it was to do wi...

Warren Miller, Off the Grid

Hey guys, just got home from seeing warren millers 'off the grid' movie. Not bad i must say, probably better than last years and that was hitting a low in the last half decade. I personally thought it was a bit of a roller coaster ride with awesom bits and bad bits all thrown together. Some of the s...

looking good so far! I see you dont do the full wrap around the tip with edges either. Thats what i did on my latest pair also. 'Great minds think alike!' haha. We havnt tested yet but we feel it will be durable. Have you used that method before? how did it go in action?
