Basement Build Pair Number 1

Hi, Like most I have lurked here for a long time. Last fall I finally made my first pair. Nothing fancy here. I spent very little time on any one thing other than the cores. Here are some pics of my build. When I started I had a small garage to work in, then we moved and I only have a very small bas...

Burn it before you do your layup. Should work great. A metal template would be best, but if its just for a one-off wood would probably be fine. Thanks Twizz. I'm not really concerned about the topsheet moving so that should be the best way to do it. The first pair I made had no graphics, just clear...

wood burning

Thought I'd ask this here instead of starting a new thread. Anyone tried making a template, out of wood for example, with words cutout, placing it over the ski and using a torch to burn it onto the wood veneer topsheet? My only concern is that there might be too much heat and cause delam. Maybe as l...

Hi,

Where are you finding black locust? I live in Switzerland and am having a difficult time finding anything other than beech, pine and paulownia.

Thanks,

I'm using a super sticky rubber compound basically double-sided tape but thicker and moldable.

Silicon

Hey guys, Been lurking here a while and just absorbing whatever info I can find, but I've run into an issue. I have silicon for bagging and its suppose to be great stuff, real stretchy and reusable many times, but it has a powder coating on it that is preventing it from sticking on other surfaces. H...

twizz, do you use horizontal bamboo or vertical? Or do you rip the horiz boards turn the 90 deg and re-glue like a regular core build? Vertically laminated floor boards. Resurrecting this thread. You say "vertically laminated floorboards"...I can get bamboo that is vertically laminated, b...

Core dimensions

Hey Falls! First, nice work! Can you give us some core dimensions for your bamboo cores and the resulting stiffness? I am building my first pair with bamboo and know that its a strong/stiff material, but just not sure which side I want to err on: too stiff or too soft.

Do you have a vacuum table or bag? I am looking to set up a table with a lid that the vacuum material is attached to, some sort of weather striping on the base table, clamps to hold the lid to the table, air flow channels in the base table etc... I've been using this for quite sometime. Membrane in...

Troublemaker it's PU. Got it here... http://www.veneersupplies.com/products/Dura-Max-Polyurethane-Material.html Had to thermo-form it a bit at the tall tip and tail molds but other than that it is really stretchy! Thanks guys. Ben, I cut out the MOFOs today just before the rain so still need to bev...

Flex

With my vacuum system I have to use tipspacers to get the result I want. With a full wood core I have to make the tips very thin or I loose tip height. With tipspacers the skis fit like a glove in the mould when finished :D How does the flex end up when not running full length wood cores? I plan on...

Wow that is the mother of all presses! Good work! I was wondering if you have seen the press that PMGear uses and if you've considered building anything like that. From what I understand they purchased it from a place in Quebec that went belly up and did not build it themselves. I'd like to know the...
