minor issues that need help
so, we pressed pair number two a few weeks ago and had a lot more success than our first pair, but still a few problems. 1. We pressed our skis for 26hours at a declining pressure of 40-25psi overnight. We pulled the skis which immediately lost almost all camber, and about half of the tip and tail r...

I think what he is getting at is to seal off a fire hose, i inflate it first, to any pressure, and then clamp it down, this way you will have more even pressure than with a simple solid top mold. For the time and effort, I think your best bet is to go with your instinct and do what is easiest for yo...

check out grafsnowboards.com, they designed a pretty decent clamp press to start out. They created some simple molds, which can probably be used later if you upgrade to a pneumatic press. They clamped their molds together with allthread. I would like to point out that I designed a clamp press to lam...

Heres the progress so far...The problem with the epoxy, acording to Roy at QCM is the temp. This epoxy was recomended accidentally to us for low temp curing because of the hardeners fast cure. unfortunately it is a HIGH TEMP EPOXY and therefor only fully cures at temps. greater than 150*F. Since we ...

first pair hot off the press with BIG PROBLEMS
For the last 6 months we have designed and built a steel press frame, molds, templates etc. We FINALLY pressed skis yesterday but ran into HUGE problems. After our epoxy tweaking out and burning 50 pairs of latex gloves off our hands, we finally had two laid up skis in our press. Heres what were wor...

epoxy madness
Today we pressed our first skis. We have run into a lot of problems along the way, but all of our layup went well....except the epoxy. We are using QCM EHV-0050 resin and QCM ECA-315 hardener. We heated the resin up by putting the whole container in some warm water (fresh off the stove, pretty hot.)...

ive talked to a guy that runs a ski manufacturing business out of jackson, WY. Theyve been operating for 10 years, and are currently running approx. 120psi and making mass production quality products....this seems high to me, but apparently it doesnt squeeze out all the epoxy--maybe they use a progr...

i dont know if this will help, but i have large rolls of snowboard base material that I am cutting skis out of. Rather than dragging a shop knife over the base, i do the opposite. Basically, I lightliy engrave the shape of the ski in the base material, then pierce the knife all the way through at on...
