vaccum vs. press
From my experience using both a pneumatic press and a vaccum press I would suggest that you go the route of a pneumatic press. I started out using a vaccum press with a vaccum pump from a concrete core machine (very heavy duty). This set up worked but I was never able to achieve the amount of pressu...

Sorry for the large pictuers, I forgot to resize. You can also see that I haven't put the finishing touches on the skis (i.e final triming of the skis, basegrind, tuning edges, cleaning the sawdust of the topsheets and deburing the tipsheets) but you guys get the idea. I just got a little excited an...

VDS Rubber
Do any of you know where you can get VDS rubber or a subsitute material locally (i.e. a Home Depot, Lowes). I ran out of my supply and I am ready to press a couple pairs of skis and don't want to wait for Snowboard Materials (my ussual supplier) to ship some to me.

Good Answer
G-Man, I liked your response. A lot of people on this website have logged lot of hours to figure out how to make their own skis. I have found this site extremely useful. I wish I would have found it earlier since I started making skis before the site was created (I used to vaccum bagging) and it wou...

Good Work
Everything looks good. I really like the blue cross pieces. What kind of material did you put on top of the MDF pieces on your base mold?

Details
The specific material I ordered from DuraSurf was: DuraSurf 4001 optimizer. I don't recall what the thickness is and I don't have any scraps leftover to measure. When I ordered it I asked for 10 meters of Topsheet and 10 meters of basematerial. The topsheet materail seems to be at least half as thic...

Screen Printed Topsheet
I got the topsheet materail from Dura Surf. I haven't noticed any fade in the color. It seems to stand up to the elements quite well. You have to use a special ink in order for the ink not react with the epoxy. The name brand that comes to mind is NAZDAR. Over all the process went pretty well, howev...

Previous Creations
These are a few pictures of some creations I made last summer and fall. I used a wood top sheet on one of the skis and a screen printed topsheet on the other. As you can see from the pictures I had some issues lining up the topsheet during layup. At the time of the pictures I had not put any stain/s...

Video
Another Great Video.
On a different note, I finally got around to installing the fittings in the fire hose you sent me and I have installed the angle iron at one end of the hose. Slowly I am getting their, however I did finish by press frame and mold. I'll post pics when everything is complete.

Hoseman,
Awesome Video, I really liked how you edited the music tracks in. Your skis looked like they worked great. If you make more videos like this in the future please share.

Pics
Great pictures, I can't wait to see some more. You might want to sand down your mold so the pieces fit together as close as possible be for you attach the metal to the top of the mold. My first mold had some small imperfections that I thought would be covered up with sheet metal like the method you ...
