Re: Kiln heating vs. heat blanket
Probably the biggest issue I would see is that you won’t know when your epoxy actually reaches the desired cure temperature. Your air temp will initially be much hotter than the temp inside your lay up. Figuring out how long your it takes for your epoxy to reach the right temp and how long it needs ...

Re: White spots showing through base material.

Re: Tip and tail rise
My tip rockers usually rise 55--65mm depending on which mold I'm using and type of ski. tail rise varies depending on the type of ski anywhere 15-40 mm, usually more in the 20-30mm range.

Re: White spots showing through base material.
How much resin did you use and how much pressure ? Since there is no fiberglass between your wood and your base, could it be possible you squeezed out too much? Likely problems Pressure: Too much, too little, or not even Resin too little or kicked too fast, did you wet both surfaces? Poor mold confo...

Agree, looks like air. Increase your pressure and make sure it’s fairly even.

This material is only produced by one manufacturer. The minimum order quantities are huge for small players.

I love the look of that top sheet. I may need to give something like that a go.

Re: Flaxfiber sidewall/ sidecut
it looks uniform and relatively normal I think. The only thing I would suggest is more pressure but you are limited by your vac set up.

Try increasing your pressure maybe? I’m pressing at 60 psi.

Re: Vinyl over wood veneer - How to do it without bubbles
By vinyl do you mean clear topsheet or are you using some other material? My process with clear nylon topsheet Apply a fairly heavy coat of epoxy over your veneer with some extra around any inlays. Coat both sides of the veneer. Some veneers really soak up epoxy. Coating both side might prevent dry ...

Re: Thickness profiles
I can't find the document but there are ISO standards for flat area in the mounting area of a ski. I'm not sure what it is specifically anymore, but I do know that it is larger than 100mm. As best as I can recall it varies with the length of the ski and is in the range of what I mentioned. I may hav...

Re: Thickness profiles
I usually create a flat mounting platform between 375 and 300 mm in length. This is usually ~200 -225mm forward of the waist of the ski and ~150-175 mm to the rear of the the waist. I vary this depending on what length ski and or how stiff I'd like the ski to be. I also at times play with the length...

Re: Eliminating base warp....a guide.
As an update to this. I have learned what I’m sure others may already have figured out. I can control the base shape with edge tension. If I use the finished core with sidewalls as a template I can clamp the base to this to help it main Shape or as I apply an edge. As long as I can see sidewall on e...
