Check out this guys liquid heated cat track. Seems like an interesting idea, I wonder how well it could work?

The wood looks to have had some composite already boneded onto it?

That's a good video!

It looks like pre-bending the wood and the bases seems to work quite well. I think I'll give that a go when I press my first set of skis up :)

My Press Design

I have been desining my press frame in my head for a few weeks now. I have only just taken the time to put the idea down on computer so here goes: http://www.corsasport.co.uk/carimages/6770/press_frame_assembly.jpg The idea is quite simple. I have opted for a design which is similar to the one detai...

Your guage looks like a regulator to me. Did you try adjusting the dial on it to increase the pressure in the bladder when you inflated it? That could be the problem...

The company I work for makes nearly every component out of steel (we make computer desks). It is all laser cut, even the tube we use for the legs of the desks is cut on a laser cutting machine. As far as i'm aware most waterjet cutters are quite small, especially in comparison to the sizes of machin...

A lasercut steel template would probably cost less than a CNC'd wood template...

Vacuum V.S. Press

I've done a fair ammount of work in composites at University. Whenever we do any work in carbon fibre we always use plastic sheeting and a vacuum pump. The guys who do a lot of work in the stuff have been able to make complete carbon fibre monocoque race car chassis using this method. I was wonderin...

A copy of a factory ski would be a good place to start actually. They probably wont come out right first time! I was going to CAD stuff up purely because I can CNC the cores and the base out which seems to be an easier way to do things rather than making a core profiler and cutting the base by hand....

Heat is often good when laying up composites to soften the epoxy resin and to allow it to flow through the materials more easily. Ast the resin chemically sets applying heat to it does allow the resin to set faster, but it's not the main intention.

Designing a Ski...

Hey, this is my first post on here! I have been really interested in making some skis for ages now. I'm pretty experienced in laying up composites and laminating wood so I think I'll be able to make a good go at it. My problem is I don't know where to start when it comes to designing a ski. There ar...
