http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff104/montuckymadman/cutout.jpg Looks really cool man. One thing I would suggest though, it tapering off the end of the channels. When you have sharp lines and quick corners like that, it tends to create stress concentrations much higher than you would think. So a...

Online beam application. Check it out!

Just found this while studying for a Statics and Solid Mechanics final exam. Played around with it for a little bit. I'm sure some of you will have some fun with this!

Enjoy!

I think it's an awesome idea. Very simplistic. I'd be willing to sacrifice some pressure to save 1000+lbs and $1000+ of steel sitting in my garage. I think a lot of people on here equate higher pressure = better skis. But not necessarily, imo. Maybe you'll squeeze out a few more grams of epoxy, but ...

find yourself some butyl tape, aka vacuum bag tape. It's a rubbery, squishable, and air-tight tape. I think it's also used for roofing, if that makes it any easier to source.

I actually use it with a vacuum bag that I can remove the vacuum source from, and it will hold perfectly.

Really cool man. Congrats. They all look like fun skis.
One thing I would like to see in the descriptions is the height of camber and rocker. Eg. This ski has a rocker rise of 5 cm, starting 46cm back from the tip.

How many pairs can you make in a week/month?

That's a pretty neat way of making veneers. Are they very fragile?

I LOVE the look of the veneer topsheets. What kind of wood is it? It reminds me of a wood called ebony black and white.

Don't think you can get ^ that stuff in veneer form tho. If only...

If you want to avoid getting splotches of epoxy on the top of your veneer, apply some sticky-back plastic (I call it mac-tac) to it before it even comes near any epoxy. You'll be able to peel it off after it's laminated on, and you can seal it however you like. If you're worried about bonding issues...

I'm really trying to avoid planing my cores. I might end up laminating them, and sanding down the "steps" created by the layers of veneers.

Has anyone ever laminated their cores with camber, and then cutting them out and laying up the ski?

I would like to do that, I really would. But, I plan on having my core about 3.2mm thick at the tips and tails, not 6.35 mm.

Only problem is the 1/4" part. I'd rather be working with the 3 ply, 1/8" baltic birch I get from Exotic Woods. The stuff is great, no voids AT ALL, just beautiful woodgrain. If only it came in 4X8 sheets...

I'm also really interested to see if the bottom ply is 1 piece of wood or 2. From the picture that shows the sidewalls underneath the bindings, it looks like a joint on the bottom ply? I'm wondering if that would even make much of a difference, since it's directly underfoot.

1 piece of advice to minimize bubbling and lumps in your topsheet is to add another layer of "something" above your layup. What I mean by that is adding the equivalent of a cat-track on the very top of your layup. I would suggest using a cross-grain piece of veneer (1/8" maybe, but wr...

I'm going to school in kingston right now. I have enough fire hose for a pneumatic press, but I REALLY don't want to make it with the traditional I-beam method. I'm thinking of buying another TAP bag (www.roarockit.com) in a custom size. I used these bags all summer to laminate about 50+ longboards....
